Trial separations? Do they really work? I guess with distance the heart grows fonder, but... well, perhaps. They work as an evaluation tool specifically in cases where you suspect that one person (or both) is taking the other person for granted. Just like how one doesn't really know exactly what a ...

He keeps putting his "shoulds" onto our relationship and I feel like I'm being tested all the time. When he hugs me, he should feel a certain way. He should miss me all the time when we aren't together. The list goes on and on. I believe he doesn't feel what he should because we have disconnected b...

I've been spending more time on my snowboard - my bike is mothballed for the season. Spandex isn't good at keeping you warm. :) But anyways, I made 1 riding buddy which I'm sure will grow into more during the spring and summer. Alright, we got you from "Or I should just kill myself" to a smiley fac...

I don't think that's fair to say either. Lots of people here including myself have enough social skills to do great at making same gender friendships and understanding the rules of normal socialization. Dating and particularly LTRs draw on a completely different set of resources over and above, lot...

I need help. Lots of it. Not just for dating. But for social interactions. How's the cycling club coming along? Sure, most of the people may be 40+, but age is just a number. They can be any age to socialize with and befriend. I had some friends from swing dancing that were 50+, and their friendshi...

What about the comments made by the OP in the above recent link -- homosexuality as some kind of communist plot, on par with "drugs, drinking and other dead end roads"? Misconceptions, gay bashing and prejudice abound in WP!

That's way too true, HG, thank you for mentioning it. In some ways, this third possibility overlaps slightly with #2 in that it's possible that they do blame themselves on some level, but rather than internalizing that blame and becoming eternally "woe is me" passive aggressive, they turn to denial ...

Right, and I don't think its really either of these myself. Learned helplessness I think can come on for a lot of different reasons but mostly it seems like lack of workable/usable knowledge seems to fuel that. When you think about it, if someone doesn't know the rules, they're not just criticizing...

Yes, that was my own fault. I did react out of frustration regarding friend zone situations. i do feel that many woman do make bad dating choices, and some don't even learn from their mistakes. Many women do make bad dating choices, but so do many men. Making mistakes is what makes us all human. :)...

I do apologize, but the OP was very misleading. Em refers to this person as her best fiend for some reason, and didn't mention that he hit her. To me, it read as another "nice guy banished to friend zone" story like we see all the time. Yeah but threads are like conversations, you have to follow th...

The "male" perspective, or yours? I'm a guy, and you certainly as hell don't speak for me!

My best wishes for the OP and her boyfriend. :)

Something else I should clarify, in my first paragraph - the broad-based assumptions people have of themselves *aren't* their fault in most cases. Definitely agree, though in the end it's not all that useful to think in terms of "fault" and "not at fault", but rather "done well" and "not done well"...

OP: Just add me to the growing list of people saying that you're not an awful person for wanting to date a blind girl, but the reasoning is funky. One thing I'd like to add that nobody's mentioned yet, however, is the potential risk to the blind girl. It looks like there are underlying issues that y...
