Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: What did/do you enjoy more, childhood or adulthood?

This is a difficult one. Since I was 15/16 I started thinking a lot about my childhood and how sometimes I wished I could be back there again due to having less responsibilities and pressure from society (eg exams, finding jobs, etc). But if I think carefully my childhood wasn't perfect either as I ...

Except for the fact that nearly all, if not all, "invisible aspies" are female. Men with autism don't have the same pressure, ability, or resources to blend in. If a man doesn't clearly show signs of autism, he likely doesn't have it. I don't really agree with this. I have Aspergers but in many cas...

Talk to your friend and try to negotiate a plan. Or maybe try meeting them separately one at a time for something else (though this might not be what you wanted, especially if you're making this a large gathering).

^^^ You guys, the entire thread is sarcastic. Don't get mad. We're mocking these stereotypes. I actually read some of the thread before making my previous post and saw that 'it's sarcastic', however some people really do believe statements like those in the OP. Even if it's intended to be sarcastic...

Do you have any experience in teaching? If so then that will give you an idea of whether you're suited to it. If not then try to get some to try out (I know some friends who teach on a temporary basis). Recently I've also been thinking about going into teaching and I plan to try it out for a while f...

Depends how well I get on with them, and whether they make a lot of noise. But in general I'm fine with them.

Most of the 'never' statements should be 'usually don't'. Conversely the 'always statements' should be 'usually'.

I find it difficult to lie as well. Usually the times when I need to are with my parents when they ask what I'm doing or what I'm going. I plan what I'm going to say beforehand and try to keep it simple. Or (more often) I tell the truth but omit parts of it and try to say as little as possible.

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Would These Have Been Considered Meltdowns?

If my mother had left me alone to cry myself out or scream or whatever then I probably could have calmed down much faster than if she was yelling at me to stop crying and yelling. Mine was similar as well - that or she'd say 'there's no use in crying/being angry'. All that does is make me more frus...

I can't decide. I appreciate the person I am but being NT would result in less misunderstandings with other people (which on the whole is not bad now, but can be better).

Yeah, I see ASD as more of a difference than a disability. As a society we should learn to appreciate diversity between different people more.

Don't worry too much about it, you didn't choose to be born or to be born with ASD or any other traits. Whether AS or not everyone is born with certain traits that may make them more or less 'difficult' to bring up.

the thing about the internet is that its conducive to people behaving in a way they wouldn't in real life. people are actually much friendlier in real life, however, it is easier and more comfortable for a less social person to rely on the internet too much This, and also the fact it's easy for peo...

Is reopening the mental hospitals really a good idea? Has it been proven that pushing mentally ill people out onto the street to fend for themselves without supervision is really a good idea? Lock 'em up, dope 'em up, and keep 'em outta trouble. This. The purpose of "lunatic asylums" was never to h...

Perhaps the first semester of first year when I'm trying to settle in with everything, and maybe a few others when I'm choosing courses, but otherwise it's not stressful cause the material is easy to start off with, and there's no assignments or midterms.

What do you mean? What traits make a difference between getting married and not getting married?

Sorry, I meant the traits determine the presence or absence of AS.
