I considered posting in this thread: When life doesn't come out like you hoped... , but since the OP was 21, I felt this might warrant a separate thread. I'm in my early thirties now and things just aren't working out. I'm considering throwing in the towel and I'm looking for rational arguments aga... |

The simplest things in life sometimes feel just so damn good. There is a bar across the street from my apartment complex which usually attracts an older, mellow crowd. There is no loud music and screaming and the place doesn't feel claustrophobic so I like going there. Plus the people are nice and n... |

Good self-advocacy is knowing how, when, and where to ask for assistance. Yet this is only a part of the formula. You must understand and articulate what your needs and goals are. The sooner I began to understand myself and my own needs, the more effective the assistance that I sought out was. |

There are days when I wish I would wake up and just be an NT. The unfortunate reality is that AS comprises the cards of life that I have been dealt. The sooner I was able to accept this, the sooner I could reach out for help. If you want, PM me and we can chat at some length. |

I have some idea of your anger because I have been there in the past myself. I felt anger that NT people would be so hateful and discriminating towards us Aspies. My anger lead to severe depression and hopelessness. Nothing good came from it so I offer the following advice to you in the spirit of wi... |

Being diagnosed with AS is neither a condemnation nor life sentence. Instead, it should provide answers, a treatment plan, and a way to move forward. I got my diagnosis back in July and I'm 37. It was a strange mix of shock, not being surprised, and acceptance - all depending upon the moment. Know t... |

Sometimes the simple act of being pleasant will cause you to not want to be nasty anymore. I don't like working around nastiness. Nastiness can create a hostile work environment which is illegal and will not be tolerated by HR. |

This past winter, I started an online course in professional dog grooming as dogs are one of my major coping mechanisms, When it came time for the internship part of my course, I was placed at a location here in my hometown, and, after two weeks, I am just waiting on the final paperwork from the la... |

I'm debating about switching career paths as I'm not happy with the one I'm on. I make very good money, I'm just miserable. My perfect career would be as a historian/genealogist, but that seems highly unlikely to give me enough to keep myself afloat. I'm considering becoming a middle school/high sc... |

I don't know that the OP should be attempting to paint such broad brush strokes because not all Aspies are alike. This is really why it is being called Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Some folks might do very well in construction jobs if they have a penchant for doing very accurate, well thought-out wor... |

The subject thread pretty much sums it up. I have a ruptured disc that severely limits the kinds of activities, and thus work, I am able to handle. When it first slipped, I was bed-ridden (or more accurately, floor ridden, since the bed caused enormous amounts of pain from not being firm enough for... |

Some age old wisdom also comes into play here, "Choose your battles." If this one is really not worth fighting, then leave it be. |

I just realize I rejected my graphic design background, all for the unrealistic dream of being made in the entertainment biz. I realized the entertainment biz is not my forte, so I regret rejecting my other gifts. I had this discussion with my dad before bed. Yesterday I even said I wanted to be a ... |

If you are comfortable where you are at and are performing well, I wouldn't sweat that you don't have a masters degree or aren't continuing your schooling. Going to school and working full time would be an utter nightmare for me too. Let your work speak for itself and if the new company feels you ar... |

I hate it. It just makes me angry. It's so dumb - the exercises she has had me do are stupid anyway. I've done some before with my last therapist and they weren't helpful at all. We aren't going to do DBT anymore. I forgot what we are moving on to. It's funny but my therapist doesn't recommend mind... |
