"Small talk" sometimes serves as a "lead-in" to more substantive talk

It might even serve the purpose of alcohol when it is consumed at parties which involve lots of music and society.

It should be noted that people don't SPEAK all those philosophical treatises within personal conversations: they WRITE the...

I've been known to give unsolicited advice which was not welcome at first--but was welcome later.

Sometimes, the unsolicited advice is never welcome.

These days, I try to assess the situation before I offer my advice. I succeed sometimes in "doing the right thing."

I believe the Neanderthals' facial features were an adaptation to the glacial environment in which they thrived. In actuality, I hardly ever find much difference in the faces of autistic people and that of NT's. If there is a difference, it's probably not just autism. Quite possibly, it's something ...

Small talk, to me, is very ritualistic in nature.

I think this "state of affairs" is because politicians, these days, know that they must appeal to the "common man." In the old days, politicians had to seem like they were "superior" to their constituency; otherwise, they would have little credibility. This is not true ...

I can be sarcastic at times. I get sarcasm better than I used to get it.

I tend to answer questions which were meant to be rhetorical, though.

Sometimes, we must "put on a front." Otherwise, we'll probably get fired, our ass kicked, etc.

That's part and parcel of being a human animal.

I believe we should think of other people at least as much as we think about our selves. When I say we shouldn't rely on "logic," I mean the medieval "logic" systems which make use of syllogisms. What might seem a fallacy according to such a "system" might actually make...

No, I didn't report it to anyone. I was probably too lazy, and I didn't want my mother to find out that I was out that late at night (even though I was already 18 at the time). I also had a entrenched value system--wherein I was never supposed to "rat" on anybody. You were a "punk&quo...
