I wouldn't enjoy the "perfect child" you described. The unquestioning obedience is something that my dog shows, and while it's useful sometimes, it also gives me anxiety because I know if I mistakenly tell her to harm herself, she will. (For example, she sat on a thistle once because I tol... |

However, if I'm wrong and a cure can be developed, it's not my place to say if someone should or shouldn't take it. I certainly wouldn't shame someone who felt that their ASD was a burden to them because everyone has different experiences with their own autism. I've worked with autistic kids whose ... |

I think of neurodivergence as innate, biologically based differences in brain function, and many causes of psychosis qualify. However, psychosis is a symptom, and there are psychotic people I wouldn't consider neurodivergent. For example, someone who is high on LSD is psychotic, but only temporarily... |

I've heard enuresis is more common in abused kids, but a lot of the studies don't properly separate cause and effect (some parents abuse kids to punish them for enuresis). I had enuresis, but I have no idea if it's related to my autism or my CSA victimization. Stress can also make enuresis worse, I ... |

The reason there's doubt about whether you can have both is because many of the symptoms of autism (atypical nonverbal cues, lower sociability, poor social understanding, weird mannerisms, executive dysfunction, etc) are also symptoms of schizophrenia. The main differences are age of onset (though s... |

I'm really glad I wasn't diagnosed before age 10, because my first school was terrible in a way that meant they'd have absolutely loved ABA. Also, the way they talked about the possibility of me having ADHD made me extremely resistant to the concept of ADHD as a valid and meaningful diagnostic categ... |

My newborn is soft and snuggly and really fun to cuddle. And it's really neat to see her looking at things and trying to figure them out. |

Biologically, having a child is easier when you're young. But economic resources and emotional maturity both give older parents an advantage. I know in my case, if I'd had a child 6 years ago, I'd have a lot more difficulty coping with looking after her, because I wouldn't have had those 6 years to ... |

Whoever is telling you " you'll find love when you stop looking for it " is most likely a woman, because this advice generally speaking, only works for women, who have the luxury of simply waiting for guys to approach them. Remember, women have a COMPLETELY different dating experience com... |

There is already an explanation from this OP, and also with milder form of ASD, you at least need to meet enough diagnostic criteria for B. Diagnostic criteria A for ASD, it should be reserved when it is more severe. People with Broad Autism Phenotype should only be diagnosed with ASD when symptoms... |

I've mostly lost friends due to executive dysfunction.
Anyone who blames me for symptoms isn't someone I really want as a friend, so that's not a huge loss. But it sucks when I drift apart from a good friend simply because I can't handle the executive challenge of staying in touch. |

I just had a thought in regards to #1  When I was a kid I've often been told that others were just joking or trying to be friendly when I really believed at the time that they were being mean & bullying me. Looking back I still believe that in some(or maybe a lot) of those situations oth... |
