My impression is that a lot of what we think of as "Muslim" appearance is common across religions in certain regions.

There is already an explanation from this OP, and also with milder form of ASD, you at least need to meet enough diagnostic criteria for B. Diagnostic criteria A for ASD, it should be reserved when it is more severe. People with Broad Autism Phenotype should only be diagnosed with ASD when symptoms...

I've mostly lost friends due to executive dysfunction.

Anyone who blames me for symptoms isn't someone I really want as a friend, so that's not a huge loss. But it sucks when I drift apart from a good friend simply because I can't handle the executive challenge of staying in touch.

I just had a thought in regards to #1  When I was a kid I've often been told that others were just joking or trying to be friendly when I really believed at the time that they were being mean & bullying me. Looking back I still believe that in some(or maybe a lot) of those situations oth...

You keep saying there should be changes to the criteria and the criteria should be like this, but you still haven't said why. Why do you think it's important to include people who don't have social impairments under the diagnostic category of autism?

I read a book by a parent of a kid diagnosed with Down Syndrome and PDD NOS, with the atypical onset thing for PDD NOS. He basically acted like a typical Down Syndrome kid until his teens, and then suddenly started acting like he was low functioning autistic as well. Also developed epilepsy around t...

Isn't the whole point of BAP that they're not included under the diagnostic criteria of autism? Why would including BAP in the diagnostic criteria be desirable?

I see a bunch of people giving strongly worded advice to Jamesy, but have any of you stopped to determine whether or not Jamesy actually wants your advice?

I don't know about you, Jamesy, but it would really bug me if people were giving me advice like that. It's your life, you do what you want.

I have a great relationship with my parents. They're not perfect (no one is) but throughout all the challenges I've faced, I've always known they're 100% on my side and will do their best to help me. With that said, I think that #1 and #3 are the biggest reasons why you see so many abused autistic p...

God, I hate when people do that. They're not being inclusive. They're basically saying "your minority gender identity doesn't matter to me, I'm going to just pretend you're a woman instead".

A bit. Mostly based on my hunger and nutritional state. I've had a lot more changes to my tastes since I've gotten pregnant, because of hormones. However, even so, my basic likes and dislikes are generally consistent.

I have innate talents with math, but my mathematical learning style clashed so badly with how my school taught me that I ended up hating math and being weak in it due to unwillingness to practice and learn it. My strengths tend to be in conceptual reasoning, and I'm terrible at memorization or follo...

I agree with their petition for basic signing skills to be taught in schools. It's easier for a hearing NT person to learn to sign than it is for Deaf or communication disabled people to learn to speak, and it'd make society more inclusive. (And even though Makaton isn't aimed at Deaf people, it sou...

Even if you can't speak or move, can you whine or stim? My family knows that when I'm keening or doing certain hand motions, I'm overstimulated, and will intervene on my behalf with others. If you can give any consistent signal of overload, even if it's unique to you, a person who knows you and is t...
