Driving has always been a strength of mine, but I relate to your feelings, so I have a few things to offer. While I did not have driver's ed at my school, I also refused to take the course privately due to the anxiety of having an instructor and being with kids my own age. I took an online course, t...

It is very common for people with ASD to have two modes: hyperfocus, and highly distractible. For example, I have IQ 128, but my attention scores are all around the perfectly average 100. But attention scores and IQ scores are supposed to align, which indicates possible ADHD. I have not pursued an A...

What kind of respect, from whom? In what way did you leave your job? Generally no, especially if you have ASD My contract ended but my family believe I messed up my job on purpouse. Well it's really unfortunate that your family feels that way. I think of the UK as being a place with high "Aspe...

Yesterday I saw one of my old bosses at a gas station, and as I was leaving, I rounded a pillar and saw him in his car so I backed up and literally hid behind the pole until he drove away. I'm pretty sure he saw me, but I didn't care, I just couldn't talk to him.

Ok, so for some reason I became a firefighter/paramedic which is quite possibly the most difficult career for an aspie. I seriously sweat bullets and shake like a leaf for the first 3 or 4 hours of my shift. On top of that, I can't connect with anyone it seems. It's like I give off an awkward/weird...

Before anyone gets too into thinking they don't have a theory of mind, this has been debunked. I can go find the references if anyone wants. But basically it's been found that theory of mind depends on your understanding of what KIND of person the other person is. It is especially difficult for an ...

I think training yourself to think positively to the extent that you can ignore them takes time. Personally, I'm kind of lashing out here, but I hate getting advice like that. Anyway, based on what you've said, it sounds like there's no immediate, practical solution to the harassment. Stay there as ...

Your instincts are right that you shouldn't fight with them, for several reasons. Everyone knows not to feed trolls. If your higher-ups tolerate harassment, they are failed employers, and they may be tolerating crime depending on where you live. However, there's not much you can do about that despit...

No, you are not lazy. It seems that you have a serious anxiety problem that you don't know how to deal with on your own to reduce anxiety and continue in school/work. Are you able to get any therapy for dealing with anxiety? A therapist can teach you methods to reduce anxiety, so it doesn't build u...

This was literally my college life in a nut-shell. I thought it was all my personal failing as a human being and that I was a terrible person and lazy and ... basically just s**t. HOWEVER- after much thinking and moving to different states and countries and blowing my savings moving away from my un...

Depends what you're measuring difficulty with. I dropped out of high school, but I answered the poll "easy". I rarely showed up and I did almost zero homework all throughout high school, doing only what was required to get a C after getting A's on all the exams. On the other hand, I had no...

Do you accept that it's an irrational fear? Nothing bad actually happens at the workplace right? So if you were on medicine you wouldn't have a reason to be scared If you simply tell a doctor everything you've said here he will help you out :) I should go to a therapist again, though the last one l...

The typical answer to this question would be computer programmer or do something along the lines of your obsession. But you seem quite unique among those with ASD, so you might just have to find your own answer. Perhaps try an employment agency or someplace where you can see a physical list of actua...

It sounds like you actually like the job, you just don't like the anxiety. Could you go on medication? (I usually recommend people get off drugs though, but you seem to get anxious for no reason) Thanks for the reply. I've never been to a psychiatrist or anyone who can prescribe drugs for the purpo...

I just registered for this site to post this topic and get some advice (affirmation). So, my story: I'm 22 now, I was diagnosed in 2013 not long after I dropped out of high school. Since before elementary school, my life has been full of joining things like sports or scouts or whatever and eventuall...
