OP set us up to expect something Really Weird, not something as mundane as having a young looking mom.

My mom and I (before she hit her mid 50s) used to always be taken for sisters.

I've always been very immature for my age & behind my peers with daily living skills & social skills. However in some ways I've also been more mature than typical NTs when I was a teen & in my 20s. Lots of teens & young adults are very big into partying, doing extremely stupid dange...

...I have to ask if *she* reads dating books. Ages ago, I used to hang out in the female equivalent of some of these dating advice communities (The Rules for example) and one thing they advised was to not keep your dating books out in plain view because most men would run screaming if they saw The R...

Lots of us just seem "a little weird." I've been asked if I was on the spectrum (but moreso when my corner of the spectrum was more broadly known as Asperger's, than recently) by some people. If this ever comes up again, I should ask "what makes you ask?" What makes you think th...

I want to see the half T-Rex  When one defaults to these behaviours in the street they do tend to come out. I ball my hands into fists when stressed out etc. I call it the Maneki Neko hand. It's like I just forget to put my hand down and it just stays there like the paw of a "lucky cat&qu...

But I don't understand how autistic people are more nerdy looking than NT if that's the case? I think this intersects with special interests rather than "nerdyness" Oh ok but I thought we were talking about looks and interests? Well both. You can be nerdy without looking nerdy. Nerdyness ...

Graphic design and animation, I only have an AA degree, and I ended up doing the former but not the latter. I have done a lot of non-college-based professional training and a lot of self teaching. I've never had enough support for long enough to manage to do more formal education. I wanted to be a m...

I didn't even know I was on the spectrum until I was diagnosed in my late 20s, along with everyone else. So I think this "Aspie radar" thing is nonsense. I don't normally even look for everyday traits in people as I walk by, let alone autistic traits. Sometimes I spot it because of seeing...

I can almost always tell if a person is "classically" autistic. I grew up around it. I went to a school where there were autistic children, as well as children with other disabilities. It's next to impossible to tell if a "nerdy" or shy person, without the "classic" sy...

Oh I see. As for guys thinking that autistic women might be a handful compared to NTs because of the moodswings mentioned before, and all that, in my experience though, I have dated one autistic woman so far and she did not test me compared to NT women though, so is it worth putting up with all of ...

My mom is probably a high-masking Aspie herself, but hates other Aspies. Especially female ones.

She can spot it. Right away. She just immediately decides she doesn't like that person and she doesn't know why.

This comes up for me because of two things... the first thing was a comment that a (non-CP) physically disabled friend made, wherein she expressed that people with CP sometimes have odd social behaviors (this is not something I am familiar with and I have nothing to add to this claim) when we were d...

Are there possibly motor elements to autistic speech? For example, slurring one's words or having pronunciation issues when experiencing overload?

There were nerds before the 1970s. Trust me. The more intellectual ones were called “eggheads” from the 50s till the early 70s. Dang, hadn't thought of that. Yeah. And the sci fi subculture space I and my dad were part of, that had a lot of Silent Generation engineers/etc in it, actually goes back ...

I've been thinking about this a bit and it makes me think on "what are my own autistic tells." I think a lot, additionally, on why I was taken for intellectually challenged when I was younger. What were people looking for? What made a person look intellectually challenged? I am an extremel...
