Im not sure if you guys have experienced this, but sometimes when I try settling issues on my own through discussion the person im trying to settle the issue peacefully with gets sh***y on me, practically hands me crap on a silver platter, and it occasionally leads to a fight, I am currently in a s...

This is very interesting. Please forgive my incessant questioning and allow me to inquire about additional details: 1. How long are you in your "overloaded state"? 2. Is your overload cumulative or just an instant response to a stimulus? (Some of you have answered that already.) 3. In case of the cu...

I wonder what exactly is a sensory overload? What are you doing/feeling when you overload? While I can't stand very high pitched sounds (even if quiet), alarms make me "stop thinking" and unexpected touch makes me jump, I would call these just unpleasant sensations. I am OK when the stimulus is gone...

Nuttdan and Scoots5012, I have read your posts and I can't help exclaim: Happy people who do not know grief! Pray that you never learn it. Death is a very serious thing, and should be taken seriously. That's all that I have to say.

[A response to an earlier message] Magic - I presume that you always had some idea you were different from your peers - you have not woken up and decided today that you will be Autistic. You are right, this was a revelation, not decision. A revelation that still doesn't let me sleep, I might add. Un...

Just a little personal explanation (somewhat off-topic): Torley_Wong and others, thanks for your encouraging comments. They are very important for me. I was afraid that I would be told "Go away and don't return without your diagnosis!". I would like to assure everyone that I have not lost all friend...

A neurotypical joining this site is like me joining a site intended specifically for people from Hawaii. Weird and perhaps even insulting - I know nothing about being Hawaiian, just as an NT knows nothing about being Autistic. It totally defeats the purpose of creating the site in the first place. ...

My skills: Programming (my profession) Writing (mostly technical documentation) Talking, talking, talking (usually until the interlocutor drops bored to death) And two "savant" skills: :D Calculator in my head - not even close in speed or accuracy to Rain Man's :( , but good enough to make people co...

I have just learned recently the term "theory of mind", and that most people know it intuitively. Even without knowing this, I tried to develop such a thing and failed miserably. I guess that the fact that I made this effort means that I do not have the intuitive ability, or if so, it is limited and...

Focused, I feel exactly the same as you and I couldn't word it better myself. I am 32 years old and I have come across AS a couple of weeks ago, partially by chance and partially by determination in looking for ideas that would help me reinvent my life and win the "war against myself". I was shocked...
