"Chance favours the prepared." I have had several changes in career, and the skills were more transferrable than one might expect. Sometimes a trick from one job would solve a big problem at another, unrelated one. My policy was to always get a paycheck in my hand to live on, and one in my... |

Humans like to pretend that their lives are proceeding in the most harmonious, natural way - parents loving and caring wisely for their children, and eventually receiving loving care from them. When there are enough resources, the urge to nurture anything in need is quite enjoyable, from house plant... |

^^ I suppose we should try to observe if others sneak out or always make an announcement. |

In another meeting, I warned the moderator via chat that if we stayed off topic I'd leave. I didn't get invited to the next one. |

I've always had trouble with good byes in group situations. If I don't want to interrupt to join a discussion, interrupting to mention leaving, which needs no elaboration, feels like a worse interruption. Generally, I'm irrelevant to the group and I doubt that anyone cares. In this case, we have bee... |

My friend's mother was determined to not leave her house, even after she had to get someone to help turn off her stove. Then she got lost returning three blocks from the store, and quit resisting the move. |

She isn't independent. She needs you. Can she see the reality? Probably, what she does not want is change, which gets increasingly hard to handle. Only familiar surroundings keep the brain feeling normal. The house is similar to an addiction, except that breaking it makes things worse, not better. C... |

^ The trouble with “explaining” is the others get insulted or don’t understand and want to argue about it. You may understand your perfect sentence but I bet the person you are referencing doesn’t. Of course, just my 2c. Thanks. That analogy seems very useful to me - strong correlation, and with on... |

Unless the meeting is very small, I see leaving a zoom meeting like slipping out the door IRL. If there are a lot of people at the meeting, no one really notices anyway. There are many reasons someone might have to leave a meeting. You don’t need to give one. Should someone ask, you can just say so... |

It goes both ways. Marie Curie was obsessed with radiation. It got her two Nobel prizes, and killed her. |

I used to minimize the physical meeting I'd attend, due to boredom and frustration with people, but I'd feel stuck, seldom upset enough to get up and walk out. Now I live where interesting conversation is rare. So, since Covid made them popular, I now go to Zoom meetings, but if they go badly off-to... |

"Special" can be positive or negative. Some people value eccentricity; others are just confused by it. I hear that in Wisconsin "That's different" means "That does not belong here." |

My friend who is good at this makes extensive to-do lists, and details them down to "CDTs" - Clearly Defined Tasks. He can pick one and focus on it without worry about it not fitting a larger plan, or, even better, get someone else to do it. If he does another job spontaneously, he often a... |

I use check lists so I can stop trying to remember everything for the next day's commitments, and sometimes put a time estimate after each one so I can check that it all fits. I still have a lot of trouble with jobs that expand as I go. I may just want a simple device, but I enjoy making it handsome... |

Yes, it makes me very tense. However, hair cuts don't bother me. And someone I used to work with liked to stroke my hair. That was ok too. But a massage? Hell no. I couldn't think of anything worse. Probably because they're somewhat intimate. Any sexual touch is also a big fat no. For people who ha... |
