Most people do this without realizing it. It's normal, and the people who are telling you this are without doubt also doing it when they recount a tale. |

How about a chapter about how you are not in an ice fortress? (For those who don't know about it-this is an idea that all autistic people have a non-autistic version of themselves inside them, trapped in the "ice fortress" of autism. The curebies hope there is a way to tease out this more ... |

Where are you? The UK somewhere? England? If so, I would not advise getting any kind of degree in English. The British invented English, so they don't really need to be told about it. There's not much use of one here in the US, either. One of my family members majored in English and wasn't able to w... |

I agree, that's a good template. I would have responded to that. I would have focused on the word flair, been amused by it, and asked for more information mostly based on that. If it was too generic I would also have asked for information, but I wouldn't have remembered the person who sent it. |

I haven't looked this up recently, but when I read about it a few years ago I learned that most people modulate their voice and facial expressions based on the reaction of other people. Supposedly we start doing this as very young children and aren't really conscious of it. Some people are less in t... |

I only know people who are one or the other. Both runs in my family but I don't have either. I know that bipolar people often have trouble finding the right medication, but I know people who are "normal" after finding the right one and would starve rather than stop taking it. So it can wor... |

Are you a younger person? And/or a female? When I was younger people used to bother me with this and it drove me crazy. Now that I'm older, and possibly also because I'm usually with other people when I'm in public no one says this to me anymore. When my neurotypical son was just a couple of months... |

You don't have to get a formal diagnosis if you don't want to. I have red hair and freckles. Sometimes people identify me as a brown haired person instead of a red-haired person. It really just depends on how you categorize people, both with hair color and autism. I like to say that spectrum people ... |

My first thought is that yes she does. I use this as a tactic to get people to open up to me about being on the spectrum. I think I have pretty good ausdar (lol), but that's not something you'd want to directly ask someone. It's like asking someone if they're gay. It's not your business, you know? W... |

Have you tried taking some online self tests yet? I personally like the RAADS-R and The Aspie Quiz best. The Aspie Quiz might be easier to score, but I like the answer choices on the RAADS-R. You could take a few different ones. Keep in mind that false negatives are more common than false positives,... |

I'll chime in. I have a pit bull and we used to go running all the time. I could handle irresponsible dog owners like you're talking about when I didn't have a kid, but now that my son's a toddler, we can't even walk my dog anymore unless someone else comes along. People are always letting their dog... |

I'm fairly certain I mentioned that my little brother is autistic (and my husband, other relatives, friends, and mentors). I had to spend my teenage years pulling my little brother out of the back rooms of grocery stores and explaining to him why you can't throw a small animal like a baseball. My la... |

I don't know what your brother meant. But I can give you an example. When I was working I had a co-worker who was then my employee when I was promoted to be the manager of our department. She was really smart, efficient, tall, pretty, very well dressed, and QUIET. She had just been hired when I was ... |

SocOfAutism – It’s fascinating that you are planning to do a survey about “Autism Disclosure at Work” and include people who self-diagnose. Why do I say that? Well, based upon my experience (in corporate America), the work world is not a safe place and this could very well lead to disastrous result... |

Yeah, geez. I have a neurological disorder and had to have a neuropsychological assessment once to get baseline IQ and whatnot in case I have a cognitive decline later (that's a cheery thought, isn't it?). The doctor did this same thing with me. Told me things verbally that he didn't document. Later... |

I suggest just telling him in plain language what's up. If he's frustrated he's probably smart. Our pediatrician told us if we didn't keep challenging our son and acknowledging his intelligence he would turn into a "supervillian" (lol). Let's say there's a project where you do something wi... |
