At this point, I asked my friend why on earth no one had just told me that, and she pointed out that I'd spent 38 years on this planet, and still hadn't figured it out, whereas everyone else had, and so there was a major deficiency on my part. I suppose so. I don't want to play those stupid hypocri...

who the heck is telling you to "get" theory of mind? like it's something you can pick up at the grocery or something? I'd think if it's something that could be picked up that easily it would be incorporated into behavioral therapies already, and since I know those are damned hard work I'm pretty sur...

I was 7 when a school mate told me Santa wasn't real and I refused to believe her. I confronted my mother about it and she confessed. I was so angry and I wondered what else she was lying to me about and it undermined my trust (which in hindsight wasn't a bad thing). my kids have always known that S...

sorry OT but I hope you all will forgive: Meadow: I think hate and anger are perfectly normal and part of the natural process of grieving. I personally hate people who go on and on about forgiveness and how I should do it for my own sake. wtf-ever. I don't forgive people who aren't worthy, but if I ...

I just have a problem with the whole personality disorder because that's considered a mental illness and I feel my problems in this area are more along the lines of physiological or neurologically based with regard to my own personal symptoms. So to me it isn't a mental illness, with autism, but a ...

B9, Don't state those views openly! A lot of laborers, etc... AREN'T morons, but may take great offense. And that description of genius, etc... ALSO leaves a LOT to be desired. b9 said those views weren't personally held but were explained by a professional at some point in the past. can't change h...

add me to the "wow what a lame joke" camp. in fact, I fail to see how it's actually a joke, unless you're like 3 years old and familiar with the cultural origins of whatever it is that's supposed to be funny, because it totally sounds like the pee-pee humor that my kids brought home from preschool.

would my bead collection fall under item 4? I always say I'm going to make jewelry but the simple fact is that I obsessively collect beads. I love them. I've been collecting them since someone gave me my first ceramic bead around the age of 12. I even buy beaded jewelry at yard sales so I can take t...

I'm female and my special interests are intense and long-term. hell, I still love dinosaurs and if there's a show on about them I have to watch it. I have toy dinosaurs in my yard (they live there, and I plan to make a habitat for them. I had one at my old house) and I would love more than anything ...

well said, dustintorch. I'd say the quality of my life is much improved just because I have a completely different perspective on it since coming here. once I was dx'd a few months ago, my lifelong depression all but evaporated. I haven't even had a meltdown in a while now, just because I've become ...

I suffer horribly from anxiety as a result of PTSD. things I've found most helpful are: cognitive behavior work with my therapist (i.e. breaking overwhelming problems down into their component issues so I can see they aren't impossible to deal with) which would be mental work, and acupuncture, which...
