Glad to know I'm not the only one who does this. I've never known anyone else (in real life) who talks to themselves as much as i do. It really helps to talk out feelings or situations, kind of like pre planning what I'm going to say.

There are at-home screening tests now that you can do yourself, without a speculum.

You might want to ask your doctor which one they recommend.

That is fantastic, i didnt know there was such a thing. About time they come up with something less torturous!

I have a horrid time with these too. After many very painful ones i finally discovered something. If you know your periods when they come, do your best to schedule it right after your period has stopped. Like within 3 days maximum of it stopping bleeding. The cervix is still lower down so it isn't a...

I know people who live in California. Don't know their income but they seem to be getting away with it. Not a very big house, rented, and they have jobs at Amazon. I've known some people who had similar housing arrangements in the past. They always are in cliques and can only afford the rent by bei...

What is the worst thing about having autism? For me, it is always being "That Weird Guy" who is excluded from social groups for not having mainstream interests. For example, I am the person who would rather chop veggies in the kitchen when everyone else is watching some pro-sports event o...

My worst thing is the worry and fear that I'll have a public meltdown from sensory overload. Yeah I've had this happen and it is horribly embarrassing, but I literally could not stop myself, its almost like I'm not even in my body or controlling it, then the feeling like everyone is staring at me o...

I agree with those who say burning out quicker. I always am amazed at how much stuff normal people handle and I just know if I tried that even for a week I'd be crying in a corner losing it because I'd be having such a bad meltdown. Its just enough to manage what I do in life (basically work and com...

Has anyone done this job at say a grocery store or Walmart, being an order filler for online orders (where people order online then come to pick up their order)? If so, does it have a lot of heavy lifting? I ask because I cannot lift a ton and just wonder how bad it is on lifting requirements. I've ...

I notice I do this a lot at work, even with things I've done tons of times. I find myself "talking" myself through the steps of doing something in my head. Even typing in passwords into my computer I will spell it out in my head as I am typing. I think it is because I'm afraid I will forge...

I was in America three or four times for the 4th of July. It was seriously crazy with street parties and all the flag waving. It was like everyone in the city celebrated, pulled their kids in wagons with stars and stripes clothing, and put flags on their lawns. Not to mention nearly all the adults ...

I tend to rely very much on notes to keep myself on track. I feel like if I don't get it out of my head and onto paper then it's gone.

Ah, OK. I understand. We have that here too and it happens randomly for about a week, on top of any organised displays. The random ones don't bother me but I know of many autistic people and people with sensory disabilities or trauma who are very stressed by fireworks, not to mention animals. I wis...

I'd try watching the fireworks display. That way you aren't taken by surprise as much, you're expecting the sounds, they have a function, and you can appreciate the beauty. I have misophonia but mine is for soft noises. Well, that's the thing there isn't really a way to predict when they go off as ...

Sort of. Fireworks can be pretty disruptive for me, but seems like not nearly as badly as it is for you Lady Strange. Sorry you have to go through this every year. This is kinda long so I'll divide it into sections. Solutions I do have other sources of environmental noise pollution that do hit me p...

For those who are not in the USA, this time of year means 4th of July which means lots of fireworks. I have always had a real bad time with this time of year due to bad sound sensitivities. Do any of you also struggle with this? The only way I've found to survive without complete meltdown is using n...

I'm guessing it depends on life conditions, stress, and how well you're able to (or how well your environment allows you to) take care of yourself. Isolation can be one thing that attenuates social skills. Also stress, if you're under enough strain the surface layer stuff gets jettisoned in favor o...
