Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Do You Identify As Being Part Of A Particular Culture?

I think it depends on what culture you come from too. Like certain cultures have a strong pride, they are passionate about who they are. But I think sometimes white Americans and Australians for example don't really have a strong culture to come from. I think a lot of NTs would feel the same as you.

Not happy to be an aspie. I deal with it the best I can, but there's all these fun, crazy desires and qualities in me dying to come out that just can't because of whichever symptom. I just feel like I'll always be living as a watered down version of myself. I'd give it all up for the ability to mak...

Sorry if this topic has been talked about already, I couldn't find one so I thought I'd ask. I recently watched a talk show, and read an autism book where they said we should never say "autistic." It should be "person with autism." I personally find this kind of politically correct labelling complet...

Don't be a jerk shloadance. Microban came here asking for our opinion on what he might be based on his personality. Aspergers is diagnosed on behavior and often goes undiagnosed if you very high functioning. There's probably a lot of people here who are not official diagnosed but have enough autisti...

Every person needs to try what works for them. Like low carb diets work for some people, others not. Same deal with dairy and gluten, if you're autistic then try it and see how you feel. Ok it didn't work for beau99. I don't know him so I don't know what he was eating, perhaps there was a reason why...

I'm no expert, but I've worked with special needs kids and it seems ADD and autism are not so far from each other. Frankly, I think ADD does not exist and is one of those made up initial disorders that were popular in the 90's (OCD, ODD etc). I think ADD is just a form of Aspergers which presents it...

I got 34. Again this is one of those tests that if you want it to come out a certain way, you can certainly do it. I answered honestly, I could have got a higher score if I hadn't said I do enjoy fiction and things like that. But I'm fairly high functioning, you wouldn't know I'm autistic unless you...

I got 73 but I agree that they are poorly worded questions. I also knew which to pick if I wanted a high or low number, it was too obvious. If I was at a shrink I'd pick a high number so I'll look normal.

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: How do your obsessions develop?

My obsessions last as long as they are being fed. So for example one of my interests is Star Wars, and when the new movie came out a couple years ago I couldn't get enough. Now there's nothing new coming, people aren't talking about it, so I've lost interest. As long as there is something happening ...

This sounds more like an anxiety issue rather than something to do with Asperger's. (Asperger's and anxiety often co-occur, however.) Whenever something like this bothers me, I just tell myself that it is nothing to get bothered over. So someone runs next to you? What does that mean? Someone is run...

I would see someone and become obsessed with them.I would think about them all the time, fantasize about them, have imaginary conversations with them(practicing).I would become a simi-stalker,trying to be in a place I knew they might be,just to have the chance to see them or hear their voice.I would ...

Does this happen to anyone else? I'm at the gym on the treadmill. I take the one at the end so I won't be near anyone. There are at least 12 other free treadmills around me. Someone walks in, walks past the 12 free treadmills....and gets on the treadmill NEXT TO ME! Same thing happens on the train w...

I do feel empathy and feel TERRIBLE if I hurt somebody. But I'm hopeless at showing it, if someone cries I'll just sit there uselessly and I don't like crying at all. I'm like "get over it and shut up already." I have no time for tears. I also often expect people to just get on with things and stop ...

I work with kids and DingoDV is right, almost all kids do become obsessed at some point. Dinosaurs are a big obsession, I know several 4 - 6 year olds who are so obsessed they can tell you anything about a diplodocus or which is a carnivore. Children have different minds and it's not at all uncommon...
