I won't be giving out anything related to my real name because I have written some pretty personal stuff here. I am from suburban New York. My diagnoses was a huge joyous relief. It felt electric, it literally felt like a surge of energy was running through me. I feel I gained a part of my identity ...

I am not a lawyer but would not Autism Speaks have the right to refuse the rent money? Since they are on record as not supporting the controversial therapy..there would be no reason not to allow the organization to participate as long as they were not endorsing the therapy in question... Therapy si...

Until diagnoses earlier this year meant childhood and teen traumas needed to be discussed and these threads I rarely thought about bullying. It's a bad part of my history but that is what it is my history. I have enough problems now to worry about 40 and 50 years ago. I think that the best most succ...

You are seriously using financial means gained by emotional manipulation as a measure of good or bad. By your logic this makes Bernie Madoff a superhero. "everywhere else online as there are many people on the spectrum who would never put themselves in a position to communicate with the general publ...

The worst damage can be done by people who started out with good intentions. They were lost or whatever. Something life altering happens a revelation or in this case having and autistic grandchild. They now have cause that that they peruse with missionary zeal. Anybody that disagrees with them are d...

Being on the spectrum makes it worse but I think this a problem everywhere with economy being bad for a long time with no sign of real change. The people fortunate to have jobs are working more hours and much harder at jobs they do not like because they are doing there jobs as well as the ones we us...

I've spent my whole life trying not to be weird in public. I've gotten pretty good at it; but, it takes a lot of energy and I can only do it for so long. If I'm not certain something I'm going to say or do isn't weird I just censor it. I've gotten much easier on myself as I've grown older. I use to...

Back to the original topic. The "condition" was first recognized in boys. The followup studies treatments were based on boys. Diagnosis and treatment was based on how it presented in boys. Groupthink took hold. Only now is it just STARTING to be recognized in adults and females. The science here is ...

Because being an actor is really hard. And if there's one job that people on the spectrum would be bad at, its acting. Some may do but we are used to acting in everyday life so I believe some could be very good at this specially the type that are into arts ect.. Bingo. The biggest source of comment...

Thanks Aardvark and PartOfMe. Well, she asked me to come back tomorrow, so I guess that's good. I'm so disoriented. We cleaned four houses. I was pretty slow. And I can't tell you how empowering it feels to be told to clean a mirror again by someone half your age. I don't know if she'll want to kee...

HFA = Asperger's. It is one and the same thing. maybe, maybe not http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/05/aspergers-autism-brain-differences_n_3707791.html Unlike like this later study showed more connections. And these only studied children. A lot more studying needed In practical terms it is like...
