I was quite shocked by this take from the NYT editorial board, it feels like someone at that paper has finally managed to locate their testicles: By the standards of mass protests around the world, the “Freedom Convoy” snarling ...

"Social credit score" is mostly a euphemism for legally enforced political correctness (in both the original and modern meanings of the phrase), it's not literally about your social mores. That being said, they're a terrible idea and should be universally opposed.

I think some of them are fun to entertain, but I have a pretty high bar before I'll start to seriously believe one.

I don't really do the whole privilege thing, too much of a blunt instrument that flattens people out into broad categories that usually don't jibe with individual experience.

I thought cancel culture meant things like demolishing gender or stuff like that. That ideology might frequently ride along with it, but cancel culture refers to the practice of trying to get people fired and/or exiled from polite society for saying the wrong thing or having the wrong opinion, that...

The language used in that notice is very similar to the language used in most Victorian universities and most academic staff when conducting lectures/seminars. It's also entered commentary for sports in Australia (some codes such as rugby have resisted). Although I don't use it, the intention behin...

Reading the PDF, it's not clear to me why you are referring to its language as "hyper-woke." I see a little bit of token "wokeness" here and there, probably because one of the podcasters is REI's "Chief Diversity and Social Impact Officer," who is paid to be alert to m...

This does coincide with the period he was complaining about having to flush 10 or 15 times. I mean, it could just be a funny coincidence, or it could be a slip that provides further insight. Ha, I'd forgotten all about that, he did b***h about low flow toilets at some point, didn't he? Man that wou...

Pretty neat, the thing is heavy and expensive and not terribly powerful, throwing a 2 oz slug at 230 fps or so, but the technology is improving rapidly, and there's a much higher performance ceiling than conventional firearms. Apparently these guys tinkered around with railguns as well, but couldn't...

It's been bad and extremely noticeable, I'm one of those people who makes periodic Costco runs to pick up certain items in bulk, so I have a pretty good gauge of how prices have been moving just by comparing my receipts over the last year or so.

I don't know the particulars of how the rules work, but I really don't like it. I'm by no means a nationalist and don't put much stock in sports, but this actually offends me on some level, I kinda wish she'd had to renounce her citizenship or something drastic in order to do it.

Yeah ,but some people use it like one. So what if they do? There's tons of useful information there, I fire it up every time I need to fix something I'm not familiar with, treating the platform as tainted because some videos aren't true is just as nonsensical as treating all newspapers as garbage b...

Thank you for the in depth reply, I've been trying to get to it and keep getting distracted by other stuff. I'm going to break this post up into blocs, as there's a lot going on here and trying to respond to everything would quickly get cumbersome. The pandering is frustrating and I think in the pas...
