I had my son when I was 40. He is now 10 and I am 50, so I am probably close to your parents age. My son is on the spectrum, and I pray every day that I will live long enough to get him into adulthood. I am in good health, but honestly, parenting is exhausting, and I only have one child. I guess I a...

Maybe foster parenting would be a good fit for you until you see if you are able to do it. Parenting is a 24/7 job, and cleaning up poop off the floor or out of the bathtub comes with the territory. Would you be okay with staying up all night with a child with a fever and cleaning up vomit off of th...

I can't offer any advice, but I am very happy that you did get to see your son for awhile. While it doesn't sound like living at home with you right now is the best option, I don't think the place he is in is a good fit. Maybe you can just keep trying to find something that is more age appropriate f...

I would just keep watching him and by the time he is 1 yr old, see how his language is developing. Especially look to see if he is using language to interact. My AS son had language at 10 months, but over time, we realized that he was just saying words. He was not using the words to get what he want...

It is understandable that as a parent you feel this way. Not sure how old your son is, but when my son was diagnosed at age 2.5, I made a decision. I have ALWAYS been a worry wart about lots of things. But, I made a decision, am I going to spend the next 15 to 20 yrs worrying about a future that may...

Well, I don't have any answers for that, but I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. My son was born when I was 40, and my husband 41. He is an only child, so this is a worry of mine that has been on my mind for years. I don't know if you are a person of faith or not, but my faith in G...

The way you describe your son's language pretty much sounds exactly how my son's language was at that age. He is almost 10 now and has gotten a little more conversational. He still brings up off the wall stuff and will ramble on and on about something that is only of interest to him. He still will b...

How old is your nephew? Does he go to school? Even though no one in your family seems to care, it seems as though this is a behavior that your nephew may want to work on for the future.

Hi Mama to Grace----I haven't been here too much in the last few years, but I remember when we seemed to be on at the same time a lot. I am sorry to hear of the troubles you and your daughter are facing. I don't really have any advice, but I am wondering if she does have it in her mind that if she e...

He sounds a lot like my son. I know what you mean about monitoring what he sees. Videos can be very powerful for our children in good ways and in bad. They can be very helpful, but at the same time, they can sometimes get stuck on things. My son is 9 now, so as hard as I try to monitor everything he...

Genetic testing can be very expensive, so I am not sure it is necessary for a diagnosis of ASD unless there are other issues concerning his development. If you have good insurance, it can't hurt I guess. We also ended up having an MRI done just because my son did not walk until his was almost 2 yrs ...

My son had low muscle tone and at 10 mos of age, was still not sitting up on his own. The pediatrician recommended we go through genetic testing to see if there was a cause. At this time, autism was not really even on our radar. The genetic testing all came back normal. However, my son, by the time ...

As long as your son is okay with it, I would be satisfied with the option. At least let him give it a try---it has to be better than the bullies.

InthisTogether and Elijahsmom---You two are both very good and brave moms! My son is only 9, so I am just very fearful of what lies ahead for him as I know he is very interested in technology and also tries to be social even though his attempts sometimes come off as odd. I guess I have no idea what ...
