The two best AAC apps I know of are Speak for Yourself and Cough Drop . Both of these apps have a large vocabulary available with only one or two hits for each word, and words can be hidden for a beginner and then new words opened without changing the position of already-learnt words. And both have...

I happen to have a nonverbal autistic relative that one would readily dismiss as being "low-functioning," yet through his behavior, no matter or not it is positive or negative, he is obviously attempting to communicate with those around him. He was diagnosed formally with an intellectual d...

I am thankfully allowed to eat my "lunch" (I'm too nervous to eat in school, so I typically eat an apple, an orange, a bag of mixed berries, or occasionally a kiwi or a banana) in a quiet office. When for some reason I cannot eat in the office-- and I know that this may not sound pleasant-...

Most "normal" people tell me that I'm scary. I think they're downright terrifying. :P

One day, someday, somehow, I am going to come out, and prove to them that I am not an entirely-isolated, mute, living-under-a rock creature.

I would definitely prefer to have autism viewed as a disability in the likeness of blindness, deafness, and physical disabilities that require the use of a wheelchair or motor scooter, one that societal accommodations can be made for regarding the unique social and sensory needs that many of us have...

^ I sometimes wonder if she doesn't want me to like girls because then I would further deviate from "normal." She has no problem with LGBT people overall-- I know I have at least one gay male and one lesbian older cousin who are quite some years ahead of me in life-- it's just that she doe...

^^ I'm only "out" to people who are my friends (or who used to be, anyway), my psychologist (who is extremely supportive of me and will assist me in coming out to other people), and two of my teachers at school. I once attempted to come out to my mother when I was thirteen, yet she simply ...

^ It's okay, truly... I've been coping with my depressive bouts that stem from thinking about her too much better over the past year or so than I was, say, a year and a half to two or three years ago... I know that this may seem so sudden and off-topic, but could you please PM me? I so far have no f...

^^^ I've known that I liked girls since I was about ten years old-- I know, that seems young. However, it truly was not until I was about thirteen that I fell in love for the first time, with the same girl that, unfortunately, I have difficulty moving on from, even though I'm pretty sure that she do...

Queer sexually; I don't know how else to define myself. I do consider myself as homoromantic-- I can't imagine myself in a relationship with a male at all.

All that I have to say is, is that it's refreshing to actually find a way to connect with other queer/lesbian Aspies! :D I never thought that I would ever be able to talk to any!

- Aspies don't enjoy writing, particularly if it's creative writing such as poetry - Aspies, in all of their social oblivion, aren't concerned with social or human rights issues in spite of not consistently speaking - Aspies read a strict diet of nonfiction (I suit this one to some extent, although ...

I am positive that posts such as this one have been made in the past by quite a few people, no matter their sexual orientation... But for years, now, I have been feeling very alone at this intersection of my two identities (queer/lesbian and autistic) after I failed to instigate a relationship with ...

Sexually, I don't really know what to label myself as... But I am exclusively-homoromantic. I overall would simply label myself as "queer," even though gender-wise, I identify as a woman comfortable in her biologically-female body.

I can concur with many of the sentiments expressed previously here on this thread: that stimming in public shouldn't be discouraged or scrutinized; that we should celebrate the strides that we have made in this life without sacrificing the essence of who and what we are; and more importantly, in pro...
