skibum , the muffs are good enough for thunder and such for me, making it sound far more muffled. Earplugs are fine for me with speech (foam ones in halfway, so comfortable), as I always forgot/forget to bring muffs with me to places where speech would be another bother with trying to sleep. I natu...

Active/electronic headphones/earbuds tend to block out specific frequencies, loud noises, but allow others though, like speech. They'll block out a bit, but it won't be as dramatic as passive/non-electronic earmuffs/earplugs. So, one will need to test them out to be sure. I'd just save a lot of mone...

Most of the time, but that's how it goes. I feel it around almost everyone all the same. Don't really have the time to socialize anyway, even if I really can't, so I guess it works out.

My mother doesn't really count. The same with all my peers that weren't friends.

One of those bad evenings for medical stuff and my mother. It's been good there for some months now. Oh well. I was called a guardian angel this time, which is a nice one, and I guess that'd be because I was standing behind her making sure she didn't fall. A somber aftermath for me. No tears this ti...

Funnily, I've never been one to care too much about the taste of things when it comes to tasting "good", rather there's just some things I'm not a fan of (texture usually, but not much a fan of bitter things), but they don't bother me too much anymore. So, I'd just say to use less salt, bu...

Yeah. I do. There's some others around here with both. They have a genetic overlap. No one will know it, because I don't respond to the monsters I see and their voices. It's all just background noise now. Seen and heard worse things from life, so it's cool. I'm also that social outcast in society, b...

Is this normal? To some extent, yeah. Same with doctors too, especially those in clinics or hospitals. When it looks like they're about to walk away or are in the process of doing such, you can ask something like, 'Is that everything?' You'll get the answer. I've seen it a lot, just not vets. They'...

How do you guys get to sleep if you can’t shut down?

Zyprexa or heavier. I can't really sleep without such. I've tried pretty much everything. The PTSD doesn't help either. Nightmares and night terrors waking me up when I do fall to sleep.

I don't sleep much.

Such is how it goes.

lostonearth35 , early on, it was theorized that it may have been from peripheral and/or central nervous system damage due to the virus replicating in high amounts within the olfactory bulb (easy pathway to said nerves from there, so neuronal damage). Now they figure it's just regular old direct cel...

Are there any solutions to this? Removing yourself from the situation when you know one is incoming is one. When I see things that upset me at the time, I'm quite calm, probably too calm in many a situation, but I know it's going to hit me when it's all over. So, I remove myself from others, isolat...

Why thank you, Raleigh. How embarrassing. I do have a loss of taste. I guess it says a lot about my ability to prepare palatable meals. :| I can taste things, albeit it's all messed up. How long did it take me to figure that one out? To be fair, I just think the loss of smell being absent overruled ...

Did they say you had Autism? Yeah. That one would come under shock too, as I didn't know I had it. :| This was a full psychiatric workup in a hospital setting, which won't be much different than an autism specific one other than starting from a more naive position (looking for everything and exclud...

They make you do an IQ test??

Usually. They'll likely run you through tests for multiple mental and personality disorders too, so shocks can happen. Lots of things can also look like autism in the end.

The biggest shock I got is I have no personality disorder. :|

Funnily, I didn't even get a positive on a rapid antigen test, and I took a few (the chemist throws them at me for "free"). Not even a faint positive. I only knew I had COVID-19 as the household contact got a couple of positives a few days after symptom onset. Thought I was maybe immune an...
