I probably do tend to think of myself as being more well-equipped to handle many social situations that I actually am, yes...

My taste is quite varied, though I do have a tendency to get stuck on certain 'sounds', or selections of artists that produce similar music. Some styles of music that I've been heavily into in the past include British Invasion artists, bebop, ragtime and traditional jazz, country blues, and Romantic...

I'm quite sensitive to noise, though I wouldn't say that I was so severely affected in this way that I struggled to function in many settings. To be specific, I'm troubled by loud noises and by certain types of noise (screeching or squeaking, namely) to a greater extent than the average person, to t...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Are you generally aware of things?

I think that I'm reasonably observant, though no more than the average person. It's unusual for me to take little notice of the physical and social environment, and there are certain things that I have a particularly keen awareness of (dates, for instance), though I wouldn't say that I was unusually...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Difficulties with boundaries

Boundaries of that sort are difficult for me to handle. I'm naturally a very open person, and so I've never tended to see an issue with revealing information that most would want to keep very private, or with asking questions that would normally be considered rude and intrusive. I've only learnt to ...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Why do Aspies talk and sing to themselves?

At this stage in my life, I'm only given to talking to myself. I regularly sang to myself when I was younger though, and often in places where such things would attract some very strange looks! I'm unsure of why I do this, or of why it seems to be a behaviour that's more common among autistic people...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Are you secretive or open about it?

In general, I much prefer to get it out in the open. In my experience, people are a lot more tolerant of social difficulties and personal quirks if they're aware that these things stem from a recognised condition. Of course, I do find it sad that it seems to be considered acceptable to show such int...

I'm mostly of English, Irish, and Scottish ancestry, as far as I know. Sadly, I can only go back through six generations or so of family history. I'd love to take one of those DNA tests that others have mentioned...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Do you learn mostly by rote memorization?

My ability with rote memorisation doesn't serve me well in the long term. I'm generally more able to properly absorb information if I can give an explanation as to how it might be applied, or if I can analyse it as part of a broader concept.

I have no issues with looking at the camera when having my picture taken - or with eye contact in general, funnily enough.

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Your experience with hyperlexia

I’m not entirely sure of how early you have to grasp reading skills to be considered hyperlexic, but I know that I could read children’s books with ease by the time I went to pre-school at the age of four, and that I could read novels aimed at older children by the time I was five or six. I was also...

Hi all. :) I’m crouton :P , and I’d just like to put a message out here to see if anybody sends a reply. I’ve joined WP to discuss certain issues that are relevant to my experiences with Asperger’s and anxiety. I’d also like to meet some like-minded friends, if possible... I’m quite apprehensive abo...
