Everyone’s different. Aspergers isn’t a disorder it’s a difference in brain wiring, so there are as many different aspies as there are neurotypicals. There is no tick box diagnosis it’s far too big for that. The NTs have labelled it as a disorder and then everyone gets caught up in the signs and sym...

Hi marshmallows, my husband died when I was 27. He’d had cancer. I really feel for you and the experience is extremely frightening. I tried to take one day at a time and not expect too much from myself. It is possible to learn to live with it and it gets easier as time goes on. I know it’s a cliched...

I’m a UK nurse, but work for a disability charity within a care home for disabled adults. I was working in an elderly care home, but the manager was toxic so I had to leave due to the stress. I’d been there for eight years. I’m not managing well at work. My antidepressant is causing brain fog, which...

I don’t eat meat and I don’t eat/drink dairy when I’m at home. Sometimes it’s unavoidable when eating out, but we don’t eat out much. I eat eggs from the local farm because I can see that the birds are well cared for. I would like to be fully vegan, but it’s hardcore and very difficult to avoid milk...

I have three cats. Two of them are rescues.

Three snakes - one royal python and two garters.

Three tarantula spiders. I had more, but they were males and they have short lifespans.

Giant hissing cockroaches - cuter than they sound

I’m a nurse at a disability centre. I haven’t declared my aspergers. I’m flying under the radar with the help of my sertraline. Fingers crossed it lasts. I just have to get my son through university then I can go flexi time. My persona is ‘A Sweetie’ and I’m receiving positive feedback so far. I’m w...

Wearing makeup annoys me. It feels greasy and unnatural. I only wear a bit of facial primer and some powder as I look so pale and washed out with absolutely nothing on my face. I can’t wear eye makeup as it irritates my eyes. I don’t use hair styling products either. I hate to see girls with makeup ...

I used to wonder if I was schizotypal, but from what I discovered, schizotypals are devoid of any emotional response except anxiety and have absolutely no interest in connecting with people at all. They also experience psychosis. I met one once (diagnosed) and he was on antipsychotics, had some stra...

You need someone who specialises. My son's paediatric psychiatrist told us he can't be autistic because he has good eye contact and good verbal skills  This is utter rubbish of course, but he isn't a specialist in autism. Don't worry yourself, just keep searching until you find someone who kno...

Thank you for this, it gives a good insight into what we need from a job. I work nightshift because it's dark, quiet and there aren't many people around. I do worry what job might be suitable for my youngest son who also has Aspergers. He is being educated at home at the moment due to being bullied ...
