I suspect some genes are more important than others and editing one has a cascading effect on others. Also there is the often neglected RNA that has only recently been found to have a role in autism. Science is only now looking at RNA. Basically wont be easy but not impossible either within a decade... |

Whether people like it or not to get a diagnosis of ASD/autism/Asperger's there has to be a degree of impairment . Thinking your superhuman/ homo sapiens 2.0 is more likely to point to delusional mania than anything else . Absolutly wanting the “D” in ASD removed because you don’t want to feel you ... |

Another reason why my favorite term "idiot savant" does work even today because it acknowledges disability and gift at the same time and you don't have to worry about these validating people gifts vs. understanding serious disability, the term encompasses both aspects of autism. The proble... |

They can change the name to ASG "Autism Special Gift". Then we can all go around telling everyone how our lives are wonderful and we really do have a gift despite a chunck of us dying early as virgins having never worked or lived on our own with hideous other issues such as epilepsy and gr... |

Unless I skipped a paragraph, there was no mention of the roles that epigenetics may play. There was an research article on RNA and autism not long ago, they found RNA (the lesser known cousin of DNA plays a part in autism as well, basically RNA impacts on gene expression I believe. They plan to in... |

Good maybe in the not too distant future they'll use base / crispr gene editing to switch some of these genes off or change the letter thus riding many of us who want it this curse.
Might not be a full cure but it would be a great to have more functionality. |

Lip biting, feet banging together, blinking ( worst one as i feel disorientated after a while ) passers by prob think im crazy.
Stimming is not much fun although more livable than my general anxiety.
If only it could be just turned off what a better life i would have. |

Reminds me of the racist "N word" used frequently in music and movies by black people. The word has different meanings depending on who's using it against or about who. Its often used to reffer to a slave like existance, regardless of skin colour. When a white person uses it its quite righ... |

How is possible the Autism be a mutation caused by nothing? Is that because the Autism is caused by external agents? Your guess is as good as mine, a well known neuroscientist who has actually studied actual autistic brains proposed a triple hit hypothesis, genes, environmental factors and timing d... |

Apparently, you do agree with each other I myself would choose medication for my kid as the last resort. First, I try to find noninvasive solutions and accommodations, psychological help, teachers aide, finding tips and tricks that work. Yes i agree with mona that drugs should be a last resort only... |

As far as ADHD is concerned some of these kids are violent both in class and home. Would many tollerate being puched in the face every day by their co workers or partners? An everyday reality for some parents / teachers of adhd kids. Some of these kids are not small either but the victims usually fe... |

Maybe it will work maybe it won’t, personally I’m not a great fan of lifelong pill popping, I prefer the potential idea of a permanent solution such as gene editing although if it helps some people then that’s great. Typical of some extremists in neurodiversity in being more interested in the identi... |

I found this article from spectrum news that goes into this, the picture at the top speaks a thousand words to the depressing reality of autism & the future of those with it for the majority & why they would want to be cured: https://www.spectrumnews.org/features/deep-dive/children-who-leave... |
