I miss Star Trek and I miss those legal shows by David E Kelly. I was imagining the fun legal problems thatStarfleet would have with new wrinkles that pop up when they interact with alien cultures. I'd love a show like that. Then yesterday I read an article that said everything has been done with St...

What??? Why in the world would teachers want to target, harass, and torment certain students for? Is it because of the students' disabilities? Or is it that they are unlikeable and tormented by other students? I did have some social and behavioral problems between elementary school and high school ...

People now have the idea genocide is okay so long as it's waged on the unborns. it is more than that. People now believe it is ok to dispose of unborn children who do not live up to their expectations. Or keep cycling through prescription drugs trying to make the born children into normal conformin...

I think the post was just a way to organize the poster's thoughts about aspergers and he/she just wanted to pass it on, hoping the thoughts about aspies was clear and concise. Most people in the real world don't "get it" so it consumes a lot of some our time trying to think of language to get people...

I think a teacher's greatest reward is knowing that he or she reached a student who needed the kind of skills and intuition she tried to impart. Even a simple thank you about what she did will probably mean the world to her.

I remember when I was young and getting accused by all kinds of stupid things because some grownups are paranoid about young people and do think they're likely crazed on drugs and want to kill them in their beds. If they'd drop the attitude and just talk to you with the expectation that you're an in...

I think the news and current events winds up everywhere else on the board so I don't know how important that one is. I don't know about a coping section. I think the whole board is mostly about coping but having a therapies section would be good for people who spend a lot of time and thought thinkin...

I bought What's Happening To My Body Book for Girls and What's Happening To My Body Book For Boys, even though they were only for my boys. I gave them the books when the oldest was in 5th grade. I never thought about it again until I occasionally saw them reading the books. We never talked about it....

This is a good thread. I think parents need to challenge themselves about assumptions they don't realize they have. I'm always learning to rethink. Another mother of an Aspy young adult called me to say that her son isn't ready for the kinds of activities my son is doing. Her example was, he hasn't ...

I just graduated from high school and am going to a community college this fall. I've visited the college several times and was in a summer choir there last year so I know my way around it well enough. I wanted to go to a small school so I wouldn't stress out too much about the transition from my h...

Autism Speaks is very well funded and passes money out everywhere to lots of organizations, who, in turn, say nice things about them. I don't know how they got so powerful so fast, maybe by scaring everyone. What is out there to push back? I talked politely to an Autism Speaks researcher, explaining...

People used to think that English was not my son's native language because he had a strong accent but his accent came from sounding out words in books and saying them rather than picking up words from hearing them.

I hope life gets better and you stick around and become a wise elder who knows what to say to others who are going through what you went through. Sorry you went through what you did.

I've learned through the years that there are no magic bullets where you finally find the right answer and everything falls into place. It's all about baby steps but holding your ground as you inch forward. Then eventually those baby steps accumulate and you find a few times where things fly into pl...
