(1) Maybe get involved with younger kids in a different way? Tutoring, coaching, volunteering: hospital baby hugger, Big Sister? (2) If it's important enough, move to a homestudy-passable place. (3a) Let the baby fever pass - it will, and over time it will lessen, (3b) Channel it into a new hobby or...

I found it useful to read memoirs written by those with ASD and then I joined online (and in person) ASD groups. It's good to find my tribe. I officially got the diagnosis b/c I am in a relatively ASD-friendly place. I have a therapist who specializes in working with folks on the spectrum and she's ...

Yes, the stigma and/or ignorance and/or hostility towards those with differences is still pervasive. I have friends who are frustrated they can't "mask" (meet expectations, for various reasons) and were diagnosed. I have friends who can "mask" (meet expectations, for various reas...

Relative to laundry reduction I would wear the same thing every day. Relative to comfort I would wear the same thing every day. However, I am sensory-seeking and my personal hygiene isn't great, so I like to and have to change. Currently I'm a fan of solid cotton shirts in a variety of winter colors...

They mention higher number than expected in children and adolescents, but still not "scaring" folks by suggesting so for adults. (I believe a study in the UK did?) Yep. Just yep. Next year we can count by daughter in the undiagnosed teenager lot, despite our attempts. I've posted (perhaps ...

After he retired from sports, he spent most of the last four decades of his life alone in his bedroom smoking, drinking and watching sports on tv. He had no friends and no interests outside of sports. My 70-some year old Autistic mother is doing similar: avoidant sleep schedule (up at 2 pm, asleep ...

The sensation of wet wood is very irritating. The feel of wood popsicle sticks against my tongue causes serious goose bumps. I get the same reaction from washing wooden kitchen utensils. I've never heard of anyone else having this weird sensory issue! That's exactly me. Just an hour ago at a school...

I do genealogy and correspond with distant cousins online. Sooooo... a second cousin once removed and I were in touch for a few years. We emailed and he even snail-mailed me books he'd written, I mailed him a holiday card. It was refreshing to find another eccentric, absent-minded professor type out...

That's a complicated background. I've had my brushes with the law and mental hospital in my late teens. I've managed to stay clear of them since then --- key is to be the first one to call the authorities, eh? LOL-cry

My grandmother probably was, but with "comorbids". I too young to relate to or help my grandmother whom was institutionalized. My mother probably is. I am aware and skilled enough now that I can help her some. My niece is, but she has my sister's personality (impervious to others and outwa...

I can catch a glass falling off the table before it reaches the ground. I can't not bump into things/knock them over, but if something's falling I can grab it. That's me also. Wicked fast reflexes. LOL At the supermarket the other day my daughter say "Holy Spidey sense!" when I caught an ...

At 5 I had a neighbor I clicked with and could have been a BFF. She moved away. In school I had acquaintances but was "other". At 30 I happened to establish my first BFF (who also has ASD). Now in my 50s, I have solid network of friends (in an ASD way). I am even reconnecting with school f...

I know this is an old post, but I have heard that statement so many times. It goes both ways, so as always CONTEXT to determine how the person means it. In any case, it's relative to cultural social norms - so gender bias (good or bad). My husband: You are not like other women (thoughtful in awe) = ...

Like others: I was perceived as mature as a child and am childish as an adult. I think it's my constant wonder and inquisitiveness. The inquisitiveness made me seem older and the wonder makes me seem younger.
