I don't know if this will help your daughter at all or not. But one thing that helps me with anxiety is to understand that the physical sensations you feel are meant, from a biological standpoint, to alert you to physical danger...to prepare you to run or fight. When I start experiencing the physic...

Kailuamom-it is very helpful to hear of someone else that understands what we are going through. I think what you are saying makes sense, and at some point I am going to need to make the same decisions it sounds like you have made. It gives me hope that this anxiety can be reversed. THANK YOU

Your daughter is either going through puberty, or has started to. Are her periods regular? Are the flare ups with her stomach pain around this time? I know the stomach is a long way from the female reproduction area, but you'll be surprised at how connected everything is. I don't have answers, just...

We do have an xbox 360 but it's been shutting down every time we try to play it. We have hardly played it at all since my daughter received it for a gift but I will see if I can get it to work and look for that game.

Yes, I'd really like her to have an exercise program. I think it does a lot to improve mood. I don't know how she'd do in martial arts if it requires sparring with someone, but Tai Chi is the meditative movement martial art, correct? That or yoga I might be able to get her to do on a good day. Right...

Oh wow, that thread has a ton of great info. Thanks! Grace has been GF for 2 years (since she received the celiac positive test result). However, around Feb or Mar when the stomach aches were bad she stopped eating because she was afraid of her stomach hurting. She lost weight (and she was fairly un...

This is also made difficult by the fact that my daughter doesn't seem to be able to express how she feels. It's hard to describe...the psychologists gave her questionnaires with questions such as "when you are frightened is it hard to breathe?" and "Does your stomach hurt when you are...

I just ordered the book from Amazon and will give it a try. She does get agitated if I try to tell her how she is feeling or even suggest. But I will try to do that. I think pre-teen female angst might be playing into her "Mom, you just don't understand" stuff. I try to be understanding bu...

My daughter is nearing puberty and I thought of that but they tested her hormones and said that wasn't the issue. She is undeveloped physically and still very immature mentally in some regards. She lacks introspection. When I try to determine how she feels about something she becomes agitated. If I ...

I would not say my daughter is more aggressive. At all. However, she is more reactive and negative. She perceives language negatively much of the time. She cannot determine mood or intent from tone or inflection and so she defaults to interpreting things negatively. This might just be a phase or som...

Thanks everyone for the comments. We are on the low FODMAP diet. A few more things to mention: she tested positive for Celiac a few years ago but this GI doc said it was "probably a false positive" and that he didn't feel she had signs of celiac. This GI doc is supposedly the "best&qu...

My daughter was diagnosed with Asperger's when she was 6. That was almost 6 years ago. In the beginning we dealt with horrible meltdowns-anger and frustration would cause her to become in a fight or flight mode. I wrote about many of those issues years ago on this site. Throughout elementary years, ...

I haven't been on here in a very long time! We have been doing fairly well, my daughter is now 11 1/2 years old, she was diagnosed 6 years ago. Her main issues are anxiety and rigidity. She was in a very small private school for elementary and transitioned to a large public middle school last August...

Thank you Screen_Name, she did go to a Speech/Language Pathologist for 2 years an they stated she did have some Receptive/Expressive Language issues. She just doesn't fit perfectly into any of the diagnostician's boxes that tell them exactly what her issues are. She's a unique combination of many is...

Thank you both for the excellent comments. While there is not a Lindamood-Bell center nearby, I ordered some of the Visualizing and Verbalising workbooks, perhaps they'll be of some help.

My daughter, diagnosed AS 5 years ago at age 6, has always struggled with reading. At a very young age she was obsessed with books-wanted to hold them all the time, wanted them read to her, etc. She even developed an early ability to read words well beyond her age level. She is still able to read ve...
