I like this institution and hope Benedict can reclaim some of the ground lost to materialism and relativism. I don't quite like that the church is opposed to any kind of death penalty due to dogma, but I'd trade the leftist politics of the western world for more authority of the church any day. I di...

These are the matching traits of his I've discovered so far: Pronounced introvert, shy and silent, devoted to books early in life. Later on when he gets support from peers, he becomes very outspoken and defiant of authority. Tendency towards self-harm and fights metaphorical demons, there's a famous...

Very interesting perspective, anbuend. It's sad to see that psychiatry has become the new state church, able to incarcerate people for being deviants and declaring them mentally incompetent, demanding that their personnel gets to run the lives of the patients. Naturally I view most of the beliefs th...

Judging by her last posts, it's because of yet another failed relationship. I get the impression that she's too dependent on relationships working out and becoming too depressed when they don't.

Through reading the history of psychiatry, I've been convinced that "schizophrenia" can't be considered a specific condition or even a specific spectrum, but rather the end diagnosis given to people that appear mad, do bizarre acts or are in general unable to deal with life. Hence, the "recruitment"...

I hope she's just found some better place to socialize instead of carrying out the suicide plans she mentioned four weeks ago: http://www.wrongplanet.net/forumssearch-search_author-Graelwyn.html I myself don't frequent this forum that often these days, but I do check the "how do you feel"-thread whe...

I guess he's competing with Gillberg for a "Worst autism researcher/profiler" award, he portrays Jeffrey Dahmer's behaviour as something not too uncommon for people with AS. http://www.astm.org/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/JOURNALS/FORENSIC/PAGES/JFS2002051_476.htm?E+mystore "...We propose that his homicida...

Interesting article. I've planned to set up an information site about psychiatry and psychopharmacology myself, telling about the history of the "disorders", the little we know about how the brain function and how vague these labels really are. The project is still only in my mind though, us on the ...

I voted no, since the attempts end up so embarassing, trying to make anything an argument in favour of God's existence. I despise beliefs like "since there is love in the world, God has to exist", neglecting the fact that it does have some use in nature. I also believe that our existence here is to ...

There really NEEDS to be testing in prisons for learning disabilities/autism also! Someone in government should INSIST upon this!! The prisons are very overcrowded too. They are saying that 24% of prison population has a severe mental illness.. This was a year ago too, it's worse now! Here's a smal...

That's a part of psychiatry stigmatizing people with labels so that these people can be put into psychiatry's care without needing it. People with AS probably commit less violence in general, though it's hard to get accurate statistics since far from everyone gets diagnosed. The autistic spectrum sh...

Wonder if they can find what parts of the brain that determine what we should focus our lives on, that's a matter of relevance as well. Brain research is slow though, there won't be any quick answers or solutions to anything.

Hmm, I found some other shocking news too: http://www.heise.de/english/newsticker/news/91733 "German Wikipedia receives state funding" I guess they've started marketing their power. Even though it started only 6 years ago, Wikipedia now defines most topics, the main source for information about anyt...

It seems Wikipedia has intentionally put itself in a position of power, with the ability to censor information. Perhaps time to start calling it Wikipravda?

There are pretty convincing statistics available that show that people with higher IQ are less likely to abuse drugs, and in general you could say do less stupid stuff. One example of a person with a high IQ doing something he shouldn't, doesn't break the rule. I've found no reason to question the v...
