^^ If I'd waited for infrastructure, I'd never have gotten anywhere. Quite a few guys rode high-wheelers to the Yukon gold rush. I won't write out a whole manual here, but I can help you choose worthwhile instructions. If you see anyone like yourself riding, you might ask them for advice. The basic ... |

Good to hear this. Germany and Denmark also has a good infrastructure for bicycling, right? I'm pretty sure Denmark does, but I don't know about Germany. I would not like riding on a crowded bikeway, which seems to happen in the low countries. I like to go at my own speed. If you want to get seriou... |

I recently had to make a custom keyboard drawer and mounting for it. It was complex enough that I had to make a sketch first, and a list of parts to cut. The list then helped check the dimensions planned without the need for scale drawings. I like drafting, too, when it is needed, but a sketch and a... |

I think I understand. What I hate is when I have problems and they take too long or too much energy to solve. One well-known scientist said that his biggest advantage was being able to tolerate uncertainty about how to properly understand the research for much longer than average. When small childr... |

One day, I'd been working on a house renovation with a crew for a couple of months, and we were almost done. I was asked to make sure that the building was secure, so I went around to each of the doors and windows, made a list of missing hardware, went to the store, and installed the lot. Then, I we... |

I did all my bicycling in North America, where most experienced riders prefer the roads to the official bicycle facilities. The Netherlands have excellent bikeways, lots of company on them, and no hills, but there are very few places I consider unrideable. With a bike, you can find alternative paths... |

"Chance favours the prepared." I have had several changes in career, and the skills were more transferrable than one might expect. Sometimes a trick from one job would solve a big problem at another, unrelated one. My policy was to always get a paycheck in my hand to live on, and one in my... |

Humans like to pretend that their lives are proceeding in the most harmonious, natural way - parents loving and caring wisely for their children, and eventually receiving loving care from them. When there are enough resources, the urge to nurture anything in need is quite enjoyable, from house plant... |

^^ I suppose we should try to observe if others sneak out or always make an announcement. |

In another meeting, I warned the moderator via chat that if we stayed off topic I'd leave. I didn't get invited to the next one. |

I've always had trouble with good byes in group situations. If I don't want to interrupt to join a discussion, interrupting to mention leaving, which needs no elaboration, feels like a worse interruption. Generally, I'm irrelevant to the group and I doubt that anyone cares. In this case, we have bee... |

My friend's mother was determined to not leave her house, even after she had to get someone to help turn off her stove. Then she got lost returning three blocks from the store, and quit resisting the move. |

She isn't independent. She needs you. Can she see the reality? Probably, what she does not want is change, which gets increasingly hard to handle. Only familiar surroundings keep the brain feeling normal. The house is similar to an addiction, except that breaking it makes things worse, not better. C... |

^ The trouble with “explaining” is the others get insulted or don’t understand and want to argue about it. You may understand your perfect sentence but I bet the person you are referencing doesn’t. Of course, just my 2c. Thanks. That analogy seems very useful to me - strong correlation, and with on... |

Unless the meeting is very small, I see leaving a zoom meeting like slipping out the door IRL. If there are a lot of people at the meeting, no one really notices anyway. There are many reasons someone might have to leave a meeting. You don’t need to give one. Should someone ask, you can just say so... |
