Why do some people in the autistic community say that diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome or other Pervasive Developmental Disorders are not used anymore? Some countries and even in some places in USA can still use the old DSM version or old version or ICD. So why? Because old criteria are rarely used...

I agree, if it truly were a given, this topic wouldn't have been made in a world where it's not already the norm.

I wouldn't rule out that at least some of them might have been autistic or adjacent.

Some of them definitely were, but I'd wager more of them were ADDers or just folks that started out looking for adventure and the situation in the cities wasn't terribly good for anybody that wasn't a robber baron.

I drove for UPS during a peak season back in the 80s when I got out of the military. You make a decent wage because there are time constraints. The number of packages loaded on your truck at night determines how much time you're allotted plus the # of packages you pick up. You stay out until all of...

The only way I can stop a special interest is to replace it with another. Usually I morph into something tangential which is related, like a subtopic, and I go from there. My partner went back to work last month after a decade of retirement. He chose to upgrade his credentials and had to sit exams ...

^Your personal opinion is that morality is relative. That people vary in their moral thinking is a fact. The reason prostitution is illegal is because society thinks it hurts the prostitutes. From what I understand that varies a lot, it can hurt prostitutes and result in human trafficking, or it ca...

But does it really "solve" your problem, or is it just a temporary bandaid? Sure, hiring an escort will temporarily give you the outcome you want (immediate sex and avoiding pain), but that won't make you stronger in the long-run. You overcome social awkwardness by having lots of genuine ...

Oh, waaaah, boo-hoo, poor Hamas and their wanting to destroy Israel is finally getting obliterated. We don't need this bill, and we don't need dumb comparisons to Nazis either. Maybe we can compare Israel wiping out Hamas to the Allies defeating the ACTUAL Nazis, huh??? Dumb? What Israeli forces ha...

This doesn't make it illegal to criticise Israeli policy. Rather, it makes criticism of Israel that targets it for its Jewishness antisemitic. While I agree that applying a different standard to a Jewish state than to other is antisemitic, I'm not sure that's relevant in the context of discriminati...

The baby's right is the important thing and should be put first. Why? We could just offer effective family planning to everybody and then society can pick up the tab and provide care independent of the parents. As for the question, men should have the same rights with respect to parenthood with the...

It's arguably more accurate to refer to this as perspective shifting as the reality we typically know is the result of our perspective more than anything else and there may not even be an objective reality to shift. And yes, it definitely can be done, but there are limits. It's not going to bring pe...

Funeralxempire, forgive me If I feel abrupt, but I really don't really care about the science. My sister just died, and my family hates me. If there's a way where I can go into( or make it feel like I went into) my favorite book, I'm going to take it. Honestly, I'm thinking of never coming back. I ...

My FB is deactivated but I'm still using messenger, but I am very close to just demo'ing the whole thing. Since I've deactivated it, my stress level has decreased a bit. Where do I begin about my many reasons for hating Fakebook. Way too much drama, one sided opinion's, some of those awful memes, a...

So, I hear a lot “you don’t look autistic”, and even when people believe I am autistic, they tend to ignore my needs for accommodations. I am a young researcher and I work at university, and I have auditory processing issues which make it impossible for me to follow oral academic discussions. I can...
