Well trump/Musk bizzare initiatives continue. U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he would like to close the U.S. Department of Education using an executive order but acknowledged he would need buy-ins from Congress and teachers' unions to fulfill his campaign pledge to do so. The Education ...

The Cape Cod teenager who pleaded guilty to the attempted drowning of a black peer in a pond while spewing a racial slur escaped jail time during his sentencing Wednesday. Chatham, Mass. resident John Sheeran, 15, will serve probation and around 700 hours of community service after he copped to atte...

I'd think the Normans under William the Conqueror (a real bastard... no, I mean he literally was!) had done their share of pillaging and murder right after Harald Hardrada had worn down Harold of Hasting's forces. Then there was the whole situation with William Wallace and Robert de Bruce in Scotla...

A judge Wednesday ended the trial of former Georgia prosecutor accused of using her influence to protect the men who chased and killed Ahmaud Arbery by throwing out the felony indictment used to charge her, abruptly halting the weeklong case before it went to the jury. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/0...

How exactly did Magna Carta make violence a thing of the past? wasn't it's impact specifically local in Britain anyway? It didn't. I don't think anyone claimed it did. What it did was introduce, for the first time, some basic human rights (like the right not to be imprisoned without a trial) that w...

I hate to say it but her being black doesn't bode well in a fight with Farage. If I were the tories I'd be looking to bring back Boris or somehow recruit Farage. It's unknown territory for the conservatives. I give her credit though, she has sold herself really well to convince a party like the tor...

Yeah sorry, I was being reductive, but the point I was leading to is that its easy to elevate the economy or some other issue as paramount to make one sound impartial; when in reality people's words belie their actions. White flight in Britain speaks for itself on what conservatives are perhaps most...

No. Still not buying it. That's a reductive take. Brexit happened for many different reasons. I don't doubt there was a section of society for whom racism played a part but it wasn't the driving force behind 52% of the voting population choosing to quit the EU. I don't dispute/doubt that, but human...

And my point is that it is not inappropriate at least not for the reason you suggested. People, including women, are subject to unimaginable cruelty. We should be striving for a more humane society for all animals, including Homo sapiens. If the thread is framed that way then yes, I have no problem...

So are many people including women. The stats on gender-based violence are not good.

I acknowledge that, but my point is its inappropriate to compare animal suffering with gender based violence.

Not wanting to state the obvious, but you can't compare women's rights to animal testing. Animals around the world are subject to unimaginable levels of cruelty in the name of women's cosmetics, clothing, testing medicines or having a nice dinner. I have wanted several times in my life to avoid anim...

Looks like there is a Kemi Badenoch effect. Scores of traditional conservative have switched their allegiance behind Nigel Farage, so her leadership has created a first in the UK where Farage's reform party is leading the polls over the tories! https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/poll-tor...

I mean if most neurological conditions are a spectrum then its possible many people have traits otherwise their condition flies under the radar. I don't find it that spectacularly mind blowing that Gates (or Musk/Branson) fall on a neurological spectrum somewhere. I am beginning to suspect its being...
