Some autistic people want to gain neurotypical approval, or, at least the very least, to fly under the neurotypical radar. This can lead directly into people pleasing behav...

I get your point about manipulation, but that doesn't apply to me at all.

Is the need to please others more an autistic than non autistic thing? Can wanting x but agreeing to y be part of the masking process?

4-7: Did reasonably well academically. First school in Bangkok saw that I had some problems, and persuaded my parents to have me tested for what we now call cerebral palsy,at Gt Ormond street . That was c1962. The result was negative, and other possibilities weren't explored. 8-13: Started at prep s...

I think it might have been a page with numbers and letters and I had to connect just the numbers or letters in order and ignore the others. Something like that. Maybe it was connecting every second letter / number? Something like th...

Call me silly, if you(plural) like, but I very much need a clear and precise definition of what is,or isn't 'masking'. One thing I do is agree to x- when y would be personally preferable, so as not to put the other person out.

^ That wasn't to dispute what you,or anyone else has said on this thread. It was merely to suggest that masking and high intelligence don't always necessarily go together, or perhaps go together in a way that's not readily identifiable as such.

I'm not consciously aware of ever having 'masked'. I don't make micro adjustments in real time to give a more positive impression of myself. Basically WYSIWYG with me.

As autism has gained increased attention in the past few decades, autistic advocates have adopted the phrase “Nothing about us without us,” illustrating the idea that autistic people should be centered in all conversations regarding autism. However, in a large portion of autism research, autistic p...

I have my chosen family who I see regularly. There are no friends. Social media is better than watching TV all day, or vegetating in bed.

Pains in the back of my lower right leg when walking. Makes me think I'm going to fall. My daughter has said to use my walker. Hands and arms have been playing up.Especially the left hand and arm.

I had no idea how disliked I was at prep school till the last meal of the last day there. Yes I'd been teased a bit, but nothing major as far as I was concerned . I took a swig of my tea not knowing someone had put tobacco in with the tea. The nausea was horrendous . It was a cruel thing to do.
