Did I read that right? Kids have to be taught to talk? I thought they learn on their own. That's what we all know. For them to learn, they have to be exposed to our language and they pick up on it and learn it. Well I have seen mothers, including my own mom with her grandchildren, when they see a c...

I didn't care about getting a boyfriend. I did care about finding a life mate, a distinctly non-temporary, committed relationship. That started when I was about 19, but I really wasn't interested in dating a lot of people even then. I knew that I was so bad at getting close to people, that I wanted ...

Does there have to be someone to blame? Life is messy and sometimes difficult. Stuff happens. Employment is a relationship, and not all personal or business relationships work out, for any number of reasons. If you know there was something you knowingly did wrong, then that's an answer. If you know ...

AS is just a variety of HFA that has come to be popularized because the term "autism" is associated with LFA in the minds of laypeople. I guess this is the way I'm starting to see it. When explaining AS to others, though, doesn't one usually mention that it's on the autism spectrum? To my way of th...

I hadn't really ever explored reasons for me being a bit different than most folks. I accepted it to be true and, much like you, never let it bother me. Then I discovered WP and learned some of those reasons. I have to admit... it rocked my world for a few months. That's what I'm experiencing in my...

I frequently fail to navigate around things completely when walking, and usually this happens when I'm either fatigued or in a hurry and my mind is wandering. I also get bruises I can't explain. While I'm doing housework or yard work, I get bumps and bruises and don't even notice because I'm focused...

I get a lot of that too, "You're too quiet!" "Why don't you smile?" and little jokes like "You really need to stop talking so much," followed by giggles. All my life. Now that I'm older, not so much, maybe because I remind people more of their mothers. It used to bother me a lot. I mean, I ne...

Welcome, intp! I'm new here too, and I'm also not sure whether I have AS, though the more I read and learn about it the more convinced I've become. Social phobia never adequately explained me to me, neither did my personality type, INFP. Neither did a lot of other things I've wondered about through ...

As the subject says, Does anyone else here not know what they are feeling about something, "anger" "frustration", "annoyance", "joyful", "excited", "Anxious", Etc? This is similar to a common problem I have processing emotions when interacting with others. In the moment, no, I often can't identify ...

For as long as I can remember I seem to be the type of person who just got ignored and trying to have a social life, at least during adulthood, seems way too much for me to handle. It's too intricate and way too many details for me to deal with. Feels exhausting just thinking about it. I've never f...

Birth control is not 100% effective. I was going to mention that. :) Any young person contemplating not having children, or waiting to have them, needs to remember that the only 100% method is abstinence. If you're not going to abstain, then you need to always be prepared for the chance a child may...

Aw, you are all so kind. :) Would a formal/official diagnosis benefit you? Only you can decide on that. From what I gathered from your post, you are probably fine without getting one. I think just reading about AS and thinking it fits so well has lifted a lot from me about not "growing up", not adap...

Hello SpiritBlooms! As you can see from my join date, it was three years ago at age 56 that I recognized my own Asperger's Syndrome and found WP. I did my best therapy here, because I could be open and honest and people knew what I was talking about. That in itself is enough to make WP worth coming...
