Ugh, yes! I work in education and it is this boiled down microcosm of society as you are describing and I hate that about it!! I also feel so confused how everyone operates with such weird optics and double talk. I know I don't really understand NTs, and it is so odd how they say one thing and do a...

Good for you, its hard to make calls like that. I have a hard time with doing things like that too, usually my husband does it. Heck I practically have to practice or even write what I want to say. Kudos, things like that are stressful.

Not sure if this is an okay question to ask, if not then it can be removed. Is it ok to ask if anyone knows or knows someone who has found a professional (the correct kind) to accurately diagnose adult autism in the state of Ohio? I wish it wasn't so difficult to find for us adults as it is all so g...

I do this too, I didn't realize how other people do not do it till my husband pointed it out to me. At my work there are these metal walls with a neat texture and most days I will (if no one is looking) run my fingers along it as I walk past. I guess most adults don't do this lol.

I just found out that I can get noise-cancelling headphones / earplugs, as well as other assistive equipment (weighted blanket, chewies, Irlen lenses, and Developmental Optometry) covered by insurance because of Autism / ADHD. WOOT. I have tinnitus, misophonia, and hyperacusis. I'm looking for reco...

One thing that seems to always work is asking people about their kids or grandkids, how they are doing. People LOVE to talk about their kids and grandkids, and they think you are nice for asking about them so it really works. Usually they just keep talking on these topics so you don't even have to s...

I'm sorry your supervisor was being awful. It's especially galling when you know you are a good employee and do a good job, but that can't be good enough. It would be real nice if jobs didn't also come with all the other people's issues and mistreatment.

I was diagnosed in childhood (AS), but I grew up being told (and treated as) that it basically meant I was shy and smart and had sensitive hearing. So I spent my school years thinking that it might be a bit harder for me, but I would attain everything an NT would at roughly the same time. I’d been ...

Glad to hear you’re realising that the “coming to terms” with it might just bring you some inner peace down the line. I would have felt down at the prospect of being neurotypical :P . I refuse to alter course just because I’m differently wired. We may have to change the way we go about achieving th...

Do any of you especially adults who have recently (or in adult life) gotten diagnosed or figured out you have autism go through a sad period about it? Well sure, I understand this sadness, and it's legitimate. It's kind of a mourning, a loss, for the kind of a person I might have been. Like mournin...

Thank you for all the replies, it's good to know I'm not alone, though I am sorry a lot of you also struggle with similar feelings. I'm hoping things get easier as I live with this knowledge for awhile and come to terms with it. Focusing on the little things to be happy about is a good thing to do, ...

Change is often he*l for me, even what will end up being good change, it doesn't matter. Its almost like my brain makes me pay for it by causing massive bad feelings and depression and hating it. It makes it real hard to do anything in life when I dread it so much because it typically is a real long...

Not sure if I have ADD, heck maybe I do I don't know. I always have to write stuff down too to remember it. If I can get away with it without looking crazy I talk out loud to myself all the time. Danusaurus, I am sorry you are having such a rough time. All this can be just crap to deal with, and the...
