The way I explain Apsperger's to folks who are not familiar with it is about like this: "You've heard the term 'Having a screw loose upstairs?' - Well, there are quite a few screws, and maybe two dozen in the area that can cause Autism. If most of them are loose, we get a person with full-blown Auti... |

I'm from Hamilton and area. The farm where I spent 7 years is now underwater, and I have not been back since some time in Toronto in '77. I recently had a lot of trouble because I too have learned to pass as normal, even though it takes me days to get ready for, and unwind from, most social interact... |

I got to see my counselor today, who is as much a friend as professionalism allows, and told her about my recent revelation that a lot of people don't even try to be logical. She calls it "dealing with the stupids." I've often noted that with people, there isn't much middle ground between boring and... |

[quote="RomanceAnonimo"]I have no pattern. I am tired all day, then hit energy in the evening, and the cycle continues. <end quote> Yeah, If I'm running short on sleep, I'll be groggy all day, and then too awake later. It is as if I catch up my sleep with mini-naps or resting parts of my h... |

I had found a beautiful farm that I could barely afford. I'm glad I didn't stretch, expecting to share it with others, as I'm still a rare newcomer here. Another guy showed up who had been wanting that place for years, and I let him have it. Then I hit a string of coincidences to find an unfashionab... |

Mom was AS, and ex-military. She first treated me as a subordinate adult, and then as as an equal once I could out-debate her. (She then avoided debate.) Dad was just frustrated with me, but he did eventually invite me to visit him when I was 22. He died suddenly before the invitation date. I had tr... |

Sometimes, I used to sleep 3 or 4 times a week, since I wanted to finish my projects without a break to dream up more improvements. I've also had enough traumatic wake-ups that I'm often afraid to sleep. My current pattern is pretty chaotic, sleeping twice or three times per day. If I miss a nap I c... |

First - to Philologos - margarine does not go rancid. It is non-lethal waste, not food. I wish I had paid more attention to obvious problems in communicating, and not expected things to get better because we were working on "recovery." A friend of mine just went by 3 rules - Agreement on spiritual m... |

For most of my life, I would change personalities whenever a shrink started to look like they had a diagnosis in mind. They would then leave me alone, which was the best outcome before AS was a valid diagnosis. Since it did hit the Book, I'm pretty disgusted that nobody picked up on my classic sympt... |

I'm not good at structure for many reasons. I grew up suspicious of it, because it often seemed to be in aid of something useless, or used to hide another reality. Also, my creative work depends upon novel combinations. If I put things away, they are often harder to find than things partly visible i... |

I feel very lucky with my current counselor, even though I mostly bounce ideas off her and ask what "normal" is. She maintains a professional detachment, but still cares about her clients. A lot of it does come down to compatible personalities and interests. Not having a PhD, she is still allowed to... |

Sorry, that was misleading. The amount of child care we need requires two parents or an extended family, and 10% of the time, that involves fooling a man about him being the parent of another man's child. Occasional infidelity helps to reduce inbreeding, etc. There was a dramatic decline in the numb... |
