I get where you're coming from, but not all therapists are like this. I'm a therapist and I care about the wellbeing of my clients. If I just wanted to collect a paycheck there are literally hundreds of jobs I could have picked instead. Most therapists I know are the same. Maybe the situation is di...

Traditional therapy never really changed anything for me, although it did give me some insight in the way the social world is presumably supposed to work. I had thought years ago that I needed something more goal oriented. Now what I thought I needed is here and yet I hear people speak negatively a...

That's what The Kinks do to me. Even after Pete Quaife has left for Heaven, it still makes me happy gone crazy. It's like I'm 21, again listening to those particular records and CDs. I have to listen to a variety of other artists, just to keep an even keel. I feel exactly the same way about a band ...

Apparently there are good therapists out there and I don't doubt that there is, but it seems like they are hard to find whilst the crap ones are everywhere. What's frustrating is that every time you try a new therapist you have to go in blind, having no idea if they'll be better or worse than the l...

i wish there was a section here on WP for services with a big list of diagnosticians and appropriate therapists, arranged geographically, with feedback from people who had gone to them. this would be especially helpful for women and those diagnosed (or seeking diagnosis) as adults. I do know a ther...

What did you do to find the person that you saw?
She was recommended on the GRASP website. But that won't help you unless you live in NYC, unfortunately.

Being mentally tired is more like feeling burnt out and stressed by having had to deal with so many things and sort them out.

Physical tiredness is the normal kind of tiredness where you need to sit or lie down, or sleep, because your body is drained of energy.

Therapy is this weird dance in which the therapist tries to get you to see things in a different light and change your thinking patterns, but they think it doesn't work unless they just lead the path to the water and then you take a drink yourself, so they won't just tell you where the well is. (If...

I find that once I've learned to mimic "normal" social responses in one language, trying to speak in another language is much more difficult and awkward, because I don't know the common phrases that are used to make small talk or respond to a greeting. (And I'm someone who is good at learning langua...

I've had a doctor tell me I couldn't have AS because I don't have the stilted speaking style that some people with AS have. You need to find the right doctor who will take you seriously and knows his/her stuff, which might not be easy. I went to a really good specialist who told me I don't have all ...

I think you just have to persevere in posting the serious threads that you are interested in and trust that people who also have that interest will come to them. To be honest I have never visited the art/music/writing forum. but I looked at it now when I read your post about it. On another forum whe...

I would also like to add that I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and when I have told people about it, to let them know the reason why I sometimes can't make plans or show up for meetings, some of them scoffed and were angry with me, whereas when they just thought I was lazy and unreliable they were f...

Three weeks is a long time. I would call and just ask if he has been able to locate anyone to Dx you. I wouldn't ask what the hold up is or let him know you are annoyed, just inquire about the progress of the search, which will serve as a reminder.

I think that you should embrace your obsession, and celebrate it. :) I agree. I don't think that trying to fight your obsession will work. It might only make you obsess more and it will make you feel all stressed out in the process. As long as you're not hurting anyone, indulge your fantasies. If y...

everything has it's place and i am in my place no matter whether there are better or lesser people than me. I agree. There will always be someone who is smarter, better looking, more talented etc. than we ourselves are. And there will always be someone who is less smart, less, attractive, less tale...

I didn't suspect I had AS until I was 34 and was diagnosed at 46, so I don't know the answer from first hand experience. But I think that kids don't know what AS is, and telling his classmates might just confuse them or worse, make him a target. I agree with Callista that it's probably best to let h...
