(Overall, I think I'm suffering from Symptom Source Confusion Disorder). SSCD should definitely be a thing... I have a great deal of trouble distinguishing between a meltdown, a panic attack and an asthma attack, and getting them mixed up is not at all helpful. Yeah, I think I might have alexithymi...

He's using shock jock tactics to gain views.

I wish these people understood the harm they do.
And cared enough not to do it.

Yes yes yes!

It's been a long wait for recognition that autistic kids can make bigger improvements through the supportive guidance of their parents than any amount of formal ABA.

Yeah, that is... nowhere near a correction. I have no idea what to make of it all. But I did still go to the doctor's appointment and asked her to do the medical certificate. Her response was basically: "You're high functioning, though, right? You've got a degree. How long have you been driving...

I think we're all good, I've checked and the above agrees with the wording on the notification form: Do you have a permanent or long term medical condition that is likely to adversely affect your ability to drive a motor vehicle safely? No Yes You are required to give TMR a completed Medical Certifi...

I have news, fresh from the horse's mouth (Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, TMR): What we are now told internally is that the ABC article had some incorrect information on TMR policy, and they are expecting a correction. The policy is that anyone with any long-term medical conditio...

I used to love The Hulk series when I was a kid. Definitely empathise with that. My belief is that we autistics have dysfunctional nervous systems and our cortisol levels are off. That means we can easily get in a stressed state and may take longer to recover. Build-up of stress over time can cause ...

Best of luck, Madame Peel. Thank you Raleigh, I'll let you know how it goes. I think I'm a pretty safe driver too, I'm cautious and keep good distance to the car in front to give myself time to react. I might have a bit of an attention problem though. The work cars have GPS trackers and we get noti...

Well... I work for the Queensland Department of Transport and yet I was completely unaware of this notification requirement until the news story on the weekend. Because of my work I have to follow the law on this so I'm going to have to do the notification. I've booked a doctor appointment to try an...

Ah this is a difficult situation. If this is a major company with many people wishing to work there, they can afford to be picky about who they employ. So even if you have not been formally "blacklisted", if there is even a hint of any issue with your former employment they may not wish to...

I also hate forms with a passion! But I need to make an update on this thread. I started it because I was wondering if the nervous system dysregulation and anxiety symptoms were a part of autism and to see if others had similar experiences - and from the responses it looks like many of you do. Howev...

Maybe, maybe not. I've been wearing it for a few weeks now and over that time my resting heart rate has been more stable than usual and HRV (heart rate variability - an indicator of nervous system function) has been consistently within my healthy range. Which is a big improvement on before. Can't re...

Did they help you get a job or you already had the job and you reached out for help keeping the job? Also, what is an OT and how did you get one? Sorry OT is an occupational therapist, mine specialises in mental health (and is neurodivergent himself, which is great). But yes, I already had the job ...

That could probably hold true for clinical anxiety also.

Sounds like a great idea to me.
Since my emotional dysregulation started causing me issues at work I've been seeing an OT for that and he's been really helpful. A lot of what he does is similar to job coaching. Has been very helpful around how I communicate with my bosses.
