I once visited a robotics competition (VEX) hosted by Widener College. The hosts had invited some “real robotics” demonstrators for the kids to see (the kids who were competing with VEX kit built robots). One group of Widener students were trying to demo a Hampster Ball Robot - a bit like BB8. It h...

https://tinyimg.io/i/uboEHdN.jpeg https://tinyimg.io/i/2O1xRYn.jpeg A bit off topic. My 12 year old son was asking me about the different kinds of robot drives you can build. I told him about one used by one of the working R2D2 units that they used for the movie. I found the two pictures above to i...

The "whiskey speech" concerned the question of the prohibition of alcoholic liquor, a law that was still in force in Mississippi at the time the speech was delivered. “My friends, I had not intended to discuss this controversial subject at this particular time. However, I want you to know ...

I'm not a nerd though. Or I don't want to be

I never said you were.

I was just telling the story about the word. (The word that someone else used self-referentially).

I am not even sure the word origin is the true one - just one of several proposed stories.

^ one possible origin for the word “nerd” is the word “drunk” spelled backwards. The saying goes that “at (name of college) there are only two kinds of people: the drunks and the knurds”. If you picture a school where there are the “cool kids” who like to party (or who are the type of people who get...

^ It is true that Carnigie worked with sales people. His biography included managing radio talent - which is a bit like sales. I disagree with the idea that Dale Carnegie recommends false flattery. He specifically says that flattery is false, like counterfeit money and that you will get into trouble...

There are two adult men on my block who both live with their patents. By my observation I would put both of them at over 30. Two (different) adults that I often see at church or at the library, brother and sister. They appear to live with mom who takes them to church. I would. place them at 30 or 35...

If it worked before when did it change? What are you doing? What are you seeing (hearing)? What are you e...

I recommend getting a copy of Dale Carnegie’s Book “How to Win Friends and Influence People”. One thing that works is to try to find a way to ask something about a trait you admire about the person - an area where you feel this person excels yourself and ask them about that. Is the person wearing cl...

I wanted to be R2D2. Still do. Cool guy - little but always got something going. Saves the day (at least) once per movie. Got all kinds of swiss army gadgets in his pockets (or robot-skins) and comes up with clever new uses for them (fire extinguisher as smoke screen or lubricating oil as a slip-haz...
