Mona mentioned that in letter boards, sometimes the assistant holds the board or works to keep the user focused on the board. But this understandably raises suspicion because if someone CAN communicate by spelling, why can't they hold the board and why would they need a helper to keep their attenti... |

I read the biography of Hellen Keller - her teacher usually acted as her eyes and ears. She was blind and deaf. She was unable to speak when she was young and her teacher started by finger spelling words into her palm - words associated with what Hellen was experiencing with her other senses. At fir... |

Well if you don't understand what someone is saying because it's not clear by the language thay use or by non verbal cues then what's wrong with asking them what they're talking about. I do this. The other day I was talking to someone and he has a certain phrase he uses at certain points during a c... |

Problem: there are two kinds of nonverbal communication - conscious and unconscious. Waving is conscious. Smiling to appear friendly is conscious. Crossing one’s legs when one is nervous is (usually) unconscious. I have the most trouble with people who use communication to purposely misdirect. Sales... |

I’m developing a theory about how NT’s communicate. My theory is that hidden emotions are behind all expressed exaggerations. If you want to know how an NT feels about what they are saying, just analyze what is exaggerated and how much. Unfortunately for me, I'm too slow at analyzing things on the ... |

Am I the only one here who understands how NTs in general think and communicate? No, I've never had a problem understanding it. Communications was a strong subject for me at school. I'm just not very good at doing it, particularly doing it in real time! One of the really fascinating things about co... |

Weight gets harder to maintain. Eyes. Teeth. Stamina just isn’t what it used to be. Too much exertion and my heart pounds like crazy and I get light headed - takes time to go back to normal. Back is iffy - need to be careful lifting things. Executive function seems worse - focus. Mood - had to chang... |

Sometimes I eat until the bag us gone, like corn chips. Also cookies and chocolate. I try to eat more protein like egg whites, and drink more water. I like sweet drinks like juice and gingerale and tea with honey - lots of honey. I try to get good tea that tastes good without any sugar or honey, or ... |

● autism-all-stars.org - Autistic Literal Thinking “Dyslexic people always ask ‘Why can’t words just be spelled the way they sound?’ while autistic people ask ‘Why can’t people just say what they mean?’ It’s one of the main reasons people on the spectrum struggle so much with social situations, but ... |

Suggestion: some people are too literal minded.
These people wouldn’t want Hellen Keller as a speaker.
Lighten up people. |

If Steven Hawking would qualify as nonverbal, I guess I could imagine him as a speaker.
I am afraid I don’t know a suitable presenter for OP. Hopefully the conference organizers would be willing to come up with accommodations for the nonverbal or minimal-verbal speaker/presenter. |
