I know I'm expected to do it. I rationalise that if I don't start sucking my fingers immediately afterwards there is no possible threat of contracting anything nasty. As soon as I can possibly do so, I wash my hands. I just hate the experience, and would happily hop up and down, recite the books of ...

If I haven't succeeded in sloping off undetected, thereby avoiding the agonisingly protracted ritual of 'saying goodbye', I often have to brace myself for the hug and kiss (please let it be cheek not lips!) and try to contain myself long enough to be out of sight of the perpetrator of the assault be...

A nurse I knew used a small cotton-wool tipped swab dipped in a specialised mouthwash (I think it was Corsodyl, which is chlorhexadine based) to 'tickle' round the teeth and gums of several children in her care who had severe issues with tooth-brushing. She said it wasn't a substitute for brushing,...

I only discovered this safe haven a short while ago.

I've lived over half a century 'not waving, but drowning' and I now know there are people out there who would recognize the signs and throw me a lifebelt. There isn't a word to describe how good that feels 8)

I asked my husband, once. He seemed confused, and told me he fell in love with me for the sound of my voice (? 8O !), my intelligence ( 8O 8O 8O ) and the way I am. That's more than good enough for me. It's bizarre, but my only real friend (male, almost definitely AS and living on the other side of ...

I love the idea of living in an English village surrounded by lovely countryside. In particular, I'd like to move to Cumbria, Norfolk, North Yorkshire, or the West Country... I live in a hamlet in North Yorkshire - doesn't qualify as a village as there is no shop/school etc. The location is idyllic...

I've been in both your son's and your own position. My Mum was always badgering me to go and play with my friends (what friends Mum?!) and to 'have fun like other children'. I would have loved to have been popular and sociable, but those gifts weren't mine to have. Now, my heart aches to watch my so...

Thank you CinnamonGirl and alone, I've had a few days to get used to it now, and have got to the point where I've managed to touch my daughter's hair! I still have to steel myself to go into her bedroom each morning as I have a mini freak-out each time I see 'not my daughter' in her bed 8O I thought...

"I've got an above average field of view and like big spectacles. Typically the "aviator" style frame. Why the current fashion for peering through tiny lenses when it limits your visual area to only half of what is visible?" I couldn't work out how to quote you, Tallyman' but those are my sentiments...

As a child I felt physically sick if anybody said the words 'blood' or 'sh*t'. Now I just wince.

Very similar to OP, but more angular; also rimless with very narrow titanium arms. It can be tricky being a spex wearer who is visually distracted by spectacle frames!

Well, I've made it through the first full day with my 'stranger' daughter. I'm really proud of my son, he keeps telling his big sister that her hair 'looks fine'. From the number of times he's said it I strongly suspect that he is having his own private battle with accepting his 'new' sister, but he...

Thank you all for the hugs and reassurance!

It really is reassuring to know that I'm not the only person who finds things like this so difficult to cope with.
