My brother is NT, but my dad is autistic.

I would like to question the assumption that if your second child is autistic that would be a bad thing, though.

What type of neurodevelopental disorder is this? I have some milder symptoms of Intellectual Disability, but am intelligent. Depends what symptoms you mean. Delays in some areas but not others are characteristic of many different conditions, depending on which areas a person is delayed in. For exam...

Why can't we just have multiple flags instead of cramming everything into one flag?

1. Renting typically costs less than owning an equivalent home. In the short term. In the long term, it costs way more. If you plan on living in the same place for a decade or more, it's way cheaper to buy a home. Even with paying people to come in and fix your things for you, homeownership is way ...

Sounds like a stim. If you'd rather chew something that isn't food or your clothes, you can buy chewable jewelry designed specifically for autistic people.

Oh well I tried martial arts to get me in shape to motivate me but I found I don't break near as much of a sweat doing that as actual exercise at the gym. Martial arts does break a sweat for sure, but just not near as much. The machines at the gym seem to work me out harder than anything else I can...

How would you determine what percentage of weight is muscle vs fat? Muscle mass won't weigh the same, or even proportionally the same, for every weightlifter.

There are tons of things out there that are worse than ASD. ASD is actually pretty minor. PTSD, depression, eating disorders, all of those are much worse than ASD.

I feel like it'd be better to judge healthy weight by a body condition score, like veterinarians do. Basically, what does your silhouette look like, and how does it compare on a 6-point scale from emaciated to morbidly obese? I don't know why we don't do the same in human medicine - it would be more...

Thank you Ettina for your comment about the demand avoidance. I'm wondering what does it feel like to be demand-avoidant, and why does it occur? I try to imagine it but am not sure if I really understand it. I heard Tony Atwood say that is related to high anxiety. I'm not sure if that means that an...

For most of human history people of all ages have been motivated by both a carrot and a stick. in modern times many have postulated that a "stick" is not necessary. I think you are discovering that this thesis is not completely supportable. External discipline has the objective of helping...

Whenever I've been working a lot on studying a language I'm not fluent in, my brain starts randomly tossing out words/phrases from that language at other times. I'll be chatting with someone and suddenly think "groente" and then part of my mind is preoccupied trying to remember what that m...

Actually, most autistic people don't fail the Sally-Anne test, especially if you're over age 10 and have an IQ over 60ish. There's a lot of evidence showing that IQ and language ability are more strongly correlated with the Sally-Anne test than autistic traits are. And it's a really basic test. Also...

Most cultures around the world don't have the expectation that young adults must move out of home. Even the places that do have that norm have generally only developed it very recently - a hundred years ago it wasn't a thing. The trend is the opposite here in the US. When my parents were young adul...

I'm not sure if you're joking, so forgive me if you are and I'm giving a serious answer here, but it varies by the formulation and individual woman. There can be both psychiatric (depression, anxiety, panic attacks, etc.) and p...

I wonder if the problem is that you're getting your physical activity in the form of working out - ie, doing something for the sole reason of exercising. If you found an activity to do that involves exercise but has another purpose, it might be a lot easier to motivate yourself. I've been told my cu...
