Of course an official dx trumps self diagnosis , but I have little time for anyone born when it was much easier to get an early dx criticising older people for self diagnosing . Agreed. I was born in the 60's when getting a diagnosis required low functioning autism by today's standards to be diagno...

There is a saying that holds true to everybody: "You are the last person to smell yourself." Your subconscious blocks out your own body odor so that it can smell other things. Now with that being said, there are at least 4 body odors: freshly bathed, armpit, stinky feat, and it's been a lo...

Personally, I learned to accept that I either suck at or I am mediocre at most things competitive. I strive to avoid last place, and accept anywhere from the middle to second to last.

It's a term we are all hearing on the news these days. Social distancing. I think it is funny that for the most part, they are recommending people live a life similar to what I live daily. The only big change in life style for me is I'm actually leaving the house more often than normal in order to f...

I liked it a little too well. Fortunately I found my two recovery programs and am coming up on seven years sober. Yup, me too. Before I knew I was autistic, it was my main tool for functioning socially. It gave me all sorts of social skills, or so I thought. Actually, it allowed me to shut off my s...

I know this is a little late, but thanks everybody for the responses. Music... You know, that is one of the ways I used to release angry energy before I knew I was autistic. Very loud music. Years ago I got in trouble many, many times for my music being to loud. I think I need to go back in time and...

I have had a very frustrating 2 hours on the phone dealing with vocal phone menus, and at one point I got stuck in a loop. Long story short, I built myself into a rage, and I need to figure out a way to release this energy. I keep a baseball bat in the car for situations like this. Not to use on peo...

I love getting out in nature in general. I live in the Midwest, no mountains, mostly farmland with some wooded regions along the rivers. I love getting away from the city, away from all the noise, away from all the people. That being said, I do like the conveniences of a city. My dream home would be...

I used to hit the bar scenes every weekend with a rare visit to a club. The only thing I ever got from the bar scenes and the clubs was 3 OWI's and tons of hangovers. (This was before the days of UBER) Clubbing was something i always did with a group of friends. Could never meet new people at the cl...

For family interaction and events, trying to figure out when I can leave. For other social events, trying to start a conversation. Nobody tries to start conversations with me, and I am unable to start a conversation. From what I understand, conversations start with someone asking open ended question...

I don't doubt wearing sunglasses is a good idea. However I'm not sure how I'd do that as I wear glasses due to being short-sighted . I wear bifocal glasses and use clip on sun glasses over top of the bifocals. I wear the clip-ons any time that I leave my apartment during daylight hours, or inside o...

I can feel pretty lonely sometimes. I tend to feel the most lonely when I’m around a lot of people. This is too funny, because I use a similar line. I feel the loneliest in a room full of people, and not a single one is talking to me. That aside, I live by myself. I don't work. I can go upwards of ...

I go out when I have to...I don't generally like being outside (around other people or alone) . I have severe sensory issues and its both too bright outside and I can't stand the feel of wind on my skin. I feel a bit like a vampire sometimes . I prefer it dark, quiet and still in the late night/ver...

Most of my outings outside of my apartment are limited to grocery shopping, paying the rent and going for walks. On the other hand, getting out to socialize is a thing I don't do. I actually started playing Pokémon Go so that I have a reason to get out.
