| Now I KNOW why it’s better to work for a steady salary! And be a member of a union. Maybe I would make less—but at least everything is above-board and regulated. I wouldn’t have the wherewithal to deal with this sort of crap. I’m lucky I got a steady civil service job pretty much out of high school.... |

The best advice is to seek to avoid making the same mistakes.
You’re not “fired” yet.
I don't think you've even had a "written warning."
What is your civil service status? Are you in a union?
If you’re a full-fledged civil servant, it’s very hard to fire you. |

Rival African tribes would (usually) capture people of other tribes, and "sell" them to the Europeans.
Or (related): the Europeans would pay the “rival African tribes” in some sort of currency for those “tribes” to capture their rivals for the Europeans. |

I meant more along the lines of----any particular organization you encounter----certainly not "where you live." |

I'm liberal in some respects, conservative in others.
I'm most akin to what is termed "Social Democracy," which is rather dominant in Europe, but not so much in the US.
A nihilistic viewpoint is understandable....but is not practicable within the present world environment. |
