I can relate to most of your stories. I got diagnosed at about the age of 4 with PDD NOS by a psychiatrist and then taken to many different specialists. One of them, a neurologist, told my parents I was smsrt and, since I had no speech problems, I was likely to get to live a “normal” life as an adu...

I can forget to brush my hair, brush my teeth, forget to read my mail, forget to go shopping online & forget other things too. I hate forgetting things! That why I cut my own hair. I don't even cut my hair. It's been 4 years lol. Getting pretty long. I actually have become really obsessed with ...

They're just reading the social cues of the people in the room. Their volume levels, tones of voice, facial expression and body language, etc. They also compare that with the expected behavior in general. For example, a waiting room will generally be quiet, so that seems normal. But, if one enters a...

You’ve gone through some rough times, Tibergrace. Is your screen name related to Rome in any way? My insists that I have a “touch of Aspergers,” but that I am “definitely not autistic.” In a roundabout way. It's actually a combination of my cats' names, makes it a hard username to forget, plus I li...

Going to elaborate on how my mom treated me in regards to my autism growing up: her idea was that tolerating any autistic behaviors was bad, and so I got a lot of negative reinforcement in regards to those behaviors. I don't know whether this had many effects but I definitely blend in more with NTs ...

My mom thinks it's bad to adjust in any way to make it easier on me in regards to my autism. That, at least, I am used to, since I was diagnosed with aspergers like 21 years ago. She treats my PTSD the same way, which has been far more difficult to handle. Her refusal to be more ginger with me has r...

Ooh, didn't even realize this was a difficult topic for me. I have had many problems with separation anxiety in the past. Not sure if those issues are still present. It would usually only have to do with people I was in a relationship with. Looking back I now realize that my separation anxiety helpe...

No Yankee candle up here, but we do have bath and bodyworks. I love smelling all the candles there and trying to guess the main ingredients of the scents. I use a lot of their scented products lol. I used to work in smoke shops which sold incense and we would constantly be burning some. I loved some...

Bad enough to risk a whole slew of medical problems in creating another being upon this earth destined to be miserable all for the sake of satisfying a selfish need (instead of adopting)?

Adoption is a lot more difficult to obtain than you seem to think.

Honestly, he is the one who may be too old to have a baby, not you. There's also this misconception that men's age has no effect in their ability to have babies - let alone healthy babies, modern science is proving that it does, big time. Also it's logistically harder on him, in his age, to be a co...

DaneClark, it sounds like you're having delusional thoughts. Having experienced psychosis myself, I am quite familiar with what that's like. It can be very confusing, and difficult to realize "oh wow my thoughts are totally illogical" while in such a state. Your sense of understanding migh...

So for me I will have handcream on me that smells of something I like but strong, and smelling that will help bring me back into the present. I do the same thing for my PTSD issues. I use this eucalyptus and spearmint lotion. I also have this lavender essential oil that I will put on my wrists and ...

I think a lot of mental illnesses are known about, but poorly understood by the general public.

The only times dissociating has upset me is when I find myself somewhere I didn't mean to be. Like the time I was driving to Uni for a 2 o'clock lecture and suddenly realised it was dark and I had no idea where I was. I had to look for street signs then find the street names on a map and I was mile...

I don't know if it was because It was intrinsically delicious, of if I was just feeling gustatorially deprived so that even a bar of soap would have been edible. Honestly that may have been the case for me lol. When I was in the hospital I had very freshly come out of a period of starvation. When y...

Many mental illnesses and disorders have a lot of symptoms in common with autism, this could all be from other issues you have, if it hasn't been something that's been with you your entire life.
