This seems like a good place to remind people of how to debate seriously. This isn't directed at you really CockneyRebel, from what I saw you were responding to others already breaking these rules. I don't consider myself the paragon of a debater either, I break these rules sometimes too. 1. Attack ... |

Until you have a working womb and need to think about these things from a real personal and informed perspective rather than an uninformed perspective, your opinion is irrelevant, thankfully. I think I have already covered this. I don't need a womb or personal experience with abortion to be able to... |

Just to point out the argument you present would seem to be inconsistent with your earlier argument, I was careful with how I worded it. A sperm or an egg alone cannot be or become an individual human being Alone in this instance just meant "without its counterpart, the sperm or the egg" ... |

Why do so many people think forcing rape victims to give birth as acceptable regardless of the mental and emotional trauma the woman has been through? Let us not forget incest as well. In a sentence, because two wrongs don't make a right. But as I said before we keep jumping to extremes unnecessari... |

I will ignore for now the strict definition of parasite. Being bodily dependent on your mother is a part of the human life cycle, usually extending beyond birth in the form of breastfeeding. Prematurely severing that dependence and seeing if the baby can survive is not a satisfactory definition of t... |

No it's not Wilburforce. Wordy as I was all I have done is given an argument that a human life begins at fertilisation in natural conception and made a possible exception to that for artificial fertilisation based on what will happen if humans do not interfere with its development. It's a leap to ta... |

I've said before that it's possible these lines of thought could be extended before fertilisation, into the sanctity of every sperm and egg but I cannot myself make the leap. It would be an issue of whether it was moral or not to create more human life wherever and whenever you can. My postings are ... |

Hehe you weren't specific enough. I'll try to lay out my views intelligibly, this was fun writing, and I have refined my views further while writing it. FYI: When I say "natural course of things" I mean the progression of a human life without human intervention to end it. --- Let's put to ... |

(I think you know where I'm going with this)
No it's not. (I don't think I'm going to go as far as you would like.) |

I don't have a definitive definition of personhood, I'm not even sure there is one. Fortunately I do not need one for my position. Be careful before you argue yourself into an abhorrent stance. The legal definition of person in US law: "An entity recognized by the law as separate and independen... |

let's use the definition the supreme court uses. legally, life begins at viability. Viability has never really been put forward in such a way. At first it was an attempt to reconcile the place where the procedure stopped being abortion and started being early induced birth i.e. late term abortions ... |

Enemy of women now am I? I still await a consistent definition of life/personhood whatever you want to call it that justifies terminating a pregnancy for no good reason. Without that this thread will go nowhere, best just to let it rest otherwise. |

All religious knowledge through scripture is seen through a glass darkly. If the Torah is "corrupt" then I am afraid so is the Koran. When you hear how the Koran was first put together: disparate oral histories cobbled together in a panic some generations after its founder's death, its rep... |

It is plain that you are unaware that 1 in 4 fertilized eggs does not implant and gets flushed out with the next period. And even once an egg implants another 1 in 4 fails to thrive as it's called and self-aborts. Clearly, God loves abortion. Plain is it? You missed or ignored my response to your o... |

But its clear there is only disagreement to be had, no point going in circles anymore. Indeed, there will always be disagreement unless someone answers my challenge from a few posts ago. That challenge being to come up with a logically consistent definition of when life begins. That is the starting... |
