Yes, I soliloquize a lot. I'm not diagnosed with AS yet but I strongly suspect I have some kind of autism as I seem to fit a lot of the criteria. Often it's as if there are two "people" in my head, one that comes out with ideas, and another who questions those ideas, checking them out for flaws. It'... |

Our jobs tell us about who we are to others, they define our status and make us worthy or not mates to the opposite sex. Women don't like unemployed or even low-occupational males, far more destructive for men as I'm sure men would date an unemployed women if she was attractive. I hope there are ex... |

Most humans (even auties/aspies) want to contribute something to society in general and work is how you do it. That is why I get up and go to work. If you are not happy with what you are doing, then look into changing something. If you keep doing the same thing, you will get the same result. I thin... |

social symptoms of aspergers 25- shyness...symptom is moderate to severe. Yep.....occasionally I've made a big effort and it's looked as if I'm not shy, but I always seem to fall back into my introverted ways. I can be quite outgoing with people I know well, if I've grown to like and trust them, bu... |

That said the more pertinent discussion for our purposes is the exploration of how one can create a self respecting identity without the support of a corporate mask. Actually I always felt right from the start that the world of working for wages/salary rather got in the way of a self-respecting ide... |

Well, I've finally set a date for a preliminary assessment for AS, with a private diagnostician. That session will be just to determine whether it's worth doing the DX proper. Monday 29th June - one week's time in fact. Petrified already. 8O She says she won't divulge the result to anybody without m... |

It's hard to know how much of Aspergers Syndrome your husband has, if he's not been diagnosed (not that a professional diagnosis is always the last word in working this out, as they make mistakes too). He might want to do the Aspie-Quiz, which (provided he's honest with his answers) might give a use... |

That's a sad story :( I guess I'm not very good at cheering anybody up when they're going through really bad stuff - when I hear of their predicaments I usually feel that I have no strong solutions, and just feel very sad that it's happening. So all I can do is to declare my sympathy for the awful t... |

As long as they keep their fanatical ways confined to the stadium, I'm prepared to live and let live, but these days they're starting to spill out into the wider community, and the authorities aren't lifting a finger to stop it - presumably because of the money involved: tons of punters equals tons ... |

It shouldn't have to be that you'd say, "It's not living if I need help to live." It's not right that people who need help to live are so vulnerable that some don't consider it living at all. Half the problem with the stigma of disability is the way disabled people, including the disabled elderly, ... |

In as far as political labels are useful, I'm a socialist. It's probably been said before on this thread, but in the UK the labels are different, Liberal here traditionally doesn't mean particularly left wing, and the Liberal party aren't. Left is supposed to be the Labour Party but in practice it i... |

Did I dream it, or did I just hear on Radio 4 that the Autism Bill has been passed in the House of Commons? The only thing I can find on the Web is from the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8016262.stm Which seems to be saying it was at the report stage today, whatever that is. I don't kn... |

I believe that they are actually legally unable to place someone in residential care against their will. Unless a doctor declares them to be psychologically unable to make rational decisions and they are sectioned. Best be careful with those meltdowns, then, folks. Thanks, Hovis - it's reassuring t... |

23- "Serious" all the time........symptom mild to moderate Yes I'm very serious-minded a lot of the time, though I didn't like it when I realised I was like that, and made a continued effort to lighten up. If I have a task to perform that's in any way difficult then I'm usually very serious about i... |

"Life is not measured by the breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away." --Anonymous (according to my source, and since I can't remember where I found it/heard it first, I'll guess its that. If someone can find who said it and correct me, that would be great.) George Carlin. An... |
