So not one month in I got an offer for 30k more than I just paid for it. I might buy a 2 bedroom and 1031 exchange it to defer the taxes on it. I could then use the excess funds to buy another property, but outside my state. Still need to think it over, but for a tad more I can get a 2 bedroom and r...

I suppose a “hot,” real estate market is relative to its surrounding area, but when I see sub $1000 rents and $350k detached house prices I don’t consider it “hot.” But my perspective is skewed by living in one of The Hottest real estate markets on the face of the Earth. Things of skyrocketed throu...

What “hotter real estate market” has $700 studios & $350k houses? :? Lol definitely not here. Some studios rent for $1800-2100+/mo in some neighbourhoods. Cheap houses cost At Least $1M. $350k might buy you a condo in the very distant suburbs a 1.5h+ drive from downtown. Maybe. That’s why I’m p...

I thought OP was talking about the bash shell, which is also called a terminal. Poster above me is talking about the bash scripting language. OP needs to clarify the question. Did not think about that thank you! To harp on that, you don't need the console per se (I use Ubuntu and use apt-get or Goo...

I bought a house, but my dad is a handyman and a plumber and hvac by profession. I get tired doing anything with my hands, so DIY stuff I expected myself to do isn't happening. I would advise you not to live alone if you can, perhaps, very cautiously, you can live with an AS friend? With a condo, y...

I have been digging, and while there is still some gold, it is getting harder and harder to find good posts (at least in Google Groups). Do you have any Usenet groups you check up on that are still active? This is an area I am still researching.

Yes, forget about quick returns. You can't beat the professionals, who are experts at extracting money from people who want quick returns. But, if you have reasonable expectations, patience, and a strategy appropriate for your risk tolerance, you can get a good return over a long period of time (ov...

While I do have issues with Linux from time to time, I am glad I switched. Don't want to be part of the computer destroying borg.

Do realize to customize linux you don't need bash per se. You could try Python or C, although C is overkill in most cases.

This, along with the rise of "pop" science makes me wonder if we are not careful could we go into a second dark age? I hope not, but the societal decay is worrying. I don't like the idea of getting information from thisrandomsiteonwhatevertopic.com , but it seems like many experts are on ...

Over 150 years ago Sir (Joseph) Norman Lockyer, a brilliant astrophysicist, found it very difficult to gain a voice and expand science. He created a new tool; he founded a great scientific journal called Nature and was its editor for a half century from 1869-1919. Nature encouraged controversy and ...

Here would be my take, both pro's and cons: Pros: -Passed right to try laws -Passed Economic Opportunity Zones law (the overall legislation sucked) -Lowered Corporate Tax Rates (the US only makes $400 billion off of it, would have been better to abolish it or replace it with a deferral system like E...

-Dislike of collectivism. Many aspies are fiercely individualistic, be it in interests or attitude. The left's worldview is based on collectivism and compliance to a group identity, and includes proposals that often tread on individual liberties such as freedom of speech. This may push away an aspi...

Oh yes, the prices in California are very intimidating! It would take us a very long time to have a 20% down payment, especially for prices there. I'd say the prices in the cities he's applying to, with what we need, are probably around 250k - 350k. We need at least 3 bedrooms because I'll be worki...
