All you can do is support and love your child no matter what, get all the help for him that you can and try to stay positive, it's not easy but look for the positives in every situation if you can. My teenage boys both have aspergers, my eldest is clever and considering different career options, my ...

Hello, as a mum of two teenage boys with aspergers I can sort of identify with your parents hoping that by not telling you it will help you to lead a normal life. My boys were both diagnosed fairly recently and we have told them about it but telling them was really difficult. Anyway, welcome to WP!

InThisTogether, yes, my son finds writing laboriously difficult too, he's just in a rush to finish a sentence as soon as possible, but he will spend all evening drawing, even fine detail is no problem for him.

physicsnut, Id find it difficult to write three paragraphs about the colour of someones hair too. I think you're right about the communication and handwriting difficulties, when he's drawing he doesn't have to worry about actual words etc. Rapidroy it sounds like you and my son have a lot in common....

Unfortunately his writing is bad even when copying. Trouble is he dislikes writing so much he never focusses on what he's doing so it's difficult to know.

Thank you all for your replies. Something that always puzzles me is that my son is a really good artist, he can't write a sentence, can barely keep on the line and its hardly legible, but he can draw a still life, with fruit and bottles and whatever else perfectly, it's all in the right place and ju...

Thank you for your replies, it's really very helpful. So, it looks like my son will never really be good at writing. The school has given up giving him homework, he really couldn't and wouldn't do it. I'd love it if he would do some homework on the laptop, I will mention it to his special needs teac...

Hi Rapidroy, thats a good idea, I must talk to the school and see if he could be given photocopies of the notes. I wonder if I could get him a thick soft pen, it might help. I've never seen such pens, I wonder where you get them. Do you still have the same problems with writing? Or do you stick to t...

Thank you all for your very helpful and interesting replies. He does get extremely frustrated with this writing problem. He has discalculia and I suppose could easily have some forum of dyslexia, I think he probably has dyspraxia too. I haven't actually asked him if writing hurts his hand, it's diff...

Recently we went to our sons parent teacher meetings. Our son is thirteen and has aspergers. All the teachers agree that he is very clever but unfortunately his writing is really bad in fact he can't seem to express himself in writing at all but he is very good at anything verbal. If he's asked a qu...
