Before my Dx (and before the new DSM came out) I would say I think I may have Asperger's, or I think I'm an aspie. Since my official Dx is Autism Spectrum Disorder, I now just say I'm autistic, or I'm on the autism spectrum. I don't use Aspergers or aspie to describe myself.

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Is it even possible for someone to fake autism?

For quite a while, I was really worried that I was subconsciously faking (or at least exaggerating) my autistic traits. This lessened, though, because several times when I told people who have known me for years (including a couple of people who work with people on the spectrum) that I think I may b...

Generally, I don't like small talk at all. I don't mind talking about my interests, though. At least verbally, I find it hard to figure out what I want to say fast enough to have a conversation about a subject I don't know well. I do like having text conversations. I'm much more comfortable having c...

Me too. I like being around "weird" people.

I have a picture of my camera. I love photography, so I use a lot of camera related pictures. My avatar on Tumblr is a picture of me holding my camera that my friend took of me...

I'm not too great at recognizing sarcasm. I rarely try to be sarcastic. I've tried using sarcasm in my first job and trying to have fun with coworkers, but the majority of the time I was called an as*hole for it. Most times if I say something sarcastic, people apparently think I'm being serious, so ...

My dad and I are very much alike. We can spend a whole weekend together and barely say anything to each other. It's not that we dislike each other, we just don't give a crap about small talk. My dad has few friends and has very narrow interests. He's lived alone since my parents divorced about 25 ye...

I have a hard time remembering people's names if I don't interact with them regularly. I don't think I've ever used someone's name when talking to them unless it was to get their attention when there are others present. Saying something like "Hi, John." or "John, you should....."...

I have been at my current job for 8 years, but I've gone pretty much nowhere within the company. I'm only a rung or two up the ladder from the most basic position there. I'm really good at my job, but I'm pretty much doing the same thing since I started. Is this a common theme for some people on the...

I have a 25 pound weighted blanket and I love it! I sleep with it on me every night! I actually wish it was heavier! I'm going to get several more heavy (regular) blankets along with my weighted blanket to sleep under.

Nope. The closest I come is imagining how I would feel in someone else's situation, but I know it's not the same. I do my best not to be an unempathic jerk, with mixed results. Wait, that's not the same thing??? I thought that imagining myself in their situation was all that was to it! How the hell...

I got my diagnosis back in October. But even though I sought it out myself, I still struggle from time to time with doubts about its validity. It's like I oscillate back and forth between feeling like ASD is this key that suddenly makes all these disparate portions of my life line up and make sense...

Up until I got my Dx, it was slow and subtle enough that no one really noticed. Since I got my Dx, I've eased up on trying so hard to make myself look "normal", and I've started letting myself rock more noticeably. A couple months ago, I was at a party and drunk. I didn't realize I was roc...
