I had a sort of similar experience in that my difficulties socialising became more apparent at that age. I'm not sure it was anything to do with me being more autistic at that age. I think it seems that way because of two main factors. Firstly, peers groups become more demanding. At 11ish kids becom...

Writing. All day long. I write for a living now. When the internet first became accessible to me in the late 90s, and I discovered online chat it was a revelation. In real-time chat, I am quick-witted, engaging and eloquent - everything I'm not in real life conversations. Having spent my life with a...

It's the increased encapsulation that turns me off these days. They've decided that users don't need to know what's happening, they just need to see the input/output of it all. I grew up in a golden era of tech I think. When it was getting capable of some really awesome stuff, but it was all still u...

Do I upgrade to the tried-and-true win10? Or hold out for this new win11? Have you considered Linux? If you like XP, there's loads of Linux distributions that ape that OS's usability and appearance. Try Linux Mint for example. Your Office 07 will run on it if you install Wine or PlayOnLinux. But yo...

Yes I watch things over and over again. There's some comfort in it.

Things I watch repeatedly include:

Dr Katz: Professional Therapist
Twin Peaks
The Tripods (80s UK sci-fi series)

I'd live in Ordon Village from Twilight Princess. I reckon I'd be totally happy there, mucking around in the woods and making the occasional trip to Hena's fishing hole (not a euphamism...although...).

I'm undiagnosed. I flip-flop on a diagnosis. I think, ultimately, if it was easier to get diagnosed then I probably would. As it is I have neither the £900 spare to get it privately, nor the mental fortitude to beat my way through the gatekeepers and waiting lists of an NHS diagnosis. I'm not after ...

I don't really. I used to rely on work for 'friends'. In that sort of environment, where you're spending hours every day stuck in a room with others, working together, I can sometimes forge something like a friendship (although they've never lasted beyond the job). These days I work alone, from home...

I deleted mine about a year ago because I felt it was teaching me to be even less social than I am. I was following people I literally haven't seen or spoken to for 20 years but I still felt I was part of their lives because they were 'sharing' things with me. I was quite happy with that, it felt so...

I've noticed that there have been periods in my life where my brain has suddenly expanded. Maybe not my brain. Maybe my consciousness, or my awareness. I think this is universal. You know how teenagers can be arrogant, because they feel like they know everything, and have seen everything and it's al...

Yes, people can see when you've viewed their linkedin profile if you were signed in at the time and not using a premium (i.e. paid) account.

I can't offer much help, but this is very much my experience of people as well so just to say you're not alone. I'm quite socially awkward, particularly so in groups of people where I tend to shut down, but I can do one-on-one provided the environment is not overstimulating. But as you describe, my ...

I guess if someone didn't have friends and it didn't bother them then that's something you could envy.

But I suspect most people who have no friends would very much like to have some, and the absence is source of considerable upset for them.

It would have been either an LCD 'handheld' (it was bigger than a brick!) of Frogger or a pirate game called Booty on the Sinclair Spectrum. Both would have belonged to my cousin who was older than me.

Seems odd to me. Are they the sort of people who'd worry about you because you left without telling them you were leaving?

I only ask because I used to go home on my own without telling people I'd been drinking with when I'd had enough and I didn't realise it upset/worried people.

I've never understood the appeal of getting married. I've been with my partner for nearly 20 years which is longer than the average marriage lasts (here in the UK at least). I'm not religious. I understand there are tax and legal benefits to getting married. Doesn't appeal to me. When people ask me ...
