So my personal theory: DSM talks about observable behavior but as a computer scientist I think about mechanism too. My model for ASD is a collection of hyper- and hypo-sensitivities. Brain scans show some parts of the brain have extra volume and activity and other parts less (compared to neuro-typic... |

A cup of tea, black tea, I like Earl Grey. Too many cups a day and my anxiety goes up and so I have to cut back. Can also negatively affect my sleep and there are downstream affects to that. I take escitalopram (generic for lexapro) was at 15 mg per day for some years but just went up to 20. Escital... |

Isa and I are talking about the DSM-5 which is THE current definition, at least in the USA. Isa’s table is from the DSM-5 and my link and post are also about the DSM-5. Maybe in jolly old England there was a different definition in the past when Joe90 was diagnosed. ICD and DSM tend to follow each o... |

What you are calling the “Journey Technique for Memorization” is a variation on the Method of Loci also known as the memory palace. What makes it work is that you are actually using different parts of your brain, parts that are very good at remembering many things in long term memory and parts that ... |

Follow this link https://www.autismspeaks.org/autism-diagnosis-criteria-dsm-5 Then search the page for “severity levels”. Bigger numbers are more severe and more “low functioning”. Smaller numbers are less severe and more “high functioning”. There are two different categories where one person can be... |

DBT specifically deals with people who sometimes conflict with the therapist. Don’t forget therapist are people too - they have flaws. I just started a DBT IOP (again). Really if your therapist fired you you probably don’t want him/her and he/she probably really couldn’t help. Try again and you may ... |

Why do some posts on Wrongplanet get no replies and others get many?
Is there some unwritten rule of how to write a post that will get replies or comments?
Is this one of those social skills I just will never really figure out? |

At age three he is still very young. Autism in the DSM is in a larger group called PDD or Pervasive Developmental Delay. One thing to look at at this age is how your child may hit developmental milestones later than same age peers. He may also far exceed them in other areas, like reading early, or b... |

Mike like to be where there is food. They like grains like rice and fat like peanut butter, lard or bacon. If you can find the food the mouse is coming in for and put it in a mouse proof container (like in a refrigerator or freezer) then the mouse will find someplace to eat and forage. Mice also don... |
