The constitution of Poland says that all citizens can vote, even if they live abroad. Poles living abroad tend to have negative views of PiS. Solution? Make it very hard to vote abroad! They have massively reduced the number of polling places. I know people who are taking long train rides in order t...

Yeah that's about the standard of candidate who typically challenges an incumbent president (especially a Democrat). Suspect he'll do about as well as John Wolfe Jr. or Lyndon LaRouche. If he's lucky, maybe as well as Bill Weld. Fundamentally unserious.

If there was, then we currently have no way of knowing.

The Big Bang is the beginning of the observable universe.

It is understandable that emotions may be running high. That said, WrongPlanet rules still apply.

In the UK, our Home Secretary (immigration/security/policing minister - yes it's weird), who is a certified wingnut, recently made a speech about "luxury beliefs" that basically left everyone confused because it isn't a term in the political lexicon here. It was obvious from context that s...

Have I got this right?

Moloch is a concept (rather than an actual existing entity) which illustrates that we can't solve human-caused problems that most people agree should be solved.

The metacrisis is the crisis that crises exist and that we seem unable to make significant progress on many of them.

I remain bemused regarding how people who have limited resources which are further depleted by the redistribution of wealth upwards continually vote for the people who drive this process. It seems like an odd kind of self harming behaviour to me. Unfortunately the Labour Party as has been said in p...

My mother believes in the law of attraction, to the extent of outright blaming children for their cancer. I don't think it's nearly as commonplace a belief as the author states. Yeah, it's sold a lot of copies, but people don't read everything they buy, they don't believe everything they read, and t...

It's all a ripoff, anyway: It's just the Hero's Journey, all stories are Star Wars, some stories just do a better job of hiding it (JKR is not exactly known for her subtlety). The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is a great example of a Hero's Journey that doesn't feel like a Star Wars knockoff, partially...

We need to build far more accommodation in London than we are.

Not sure if halls close to Imperial and UCL (and the other central universities) are sustainable but you could put a load up in Zones 3 and 4... if planning rules allowed for it. Also need plenty for those of us who aren't students.

The "soft lead" has been holding up for 18 months now. Recent polls suggest the Labour lead is shrinking. Personally I think they're being stupid coming out with policies a year before the election which will either be ridiculed or nicked by the Tories. Recent polls show Labour up by 15-2...

Recently I was shown this map from the last election: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/98/2020_Polish_presidential_election_map.png For reference, Duda is running as quite a hard right candidate with the backing of the ruling party, and Trzaskowski is from Donald Tusk's party, who ar...

It does.

However, having "the right" and it being the right thing to do are very different.

In most of the world you have the right to commit adultery. Doesn't mean you're not going to get dumped or divorced if you do!

Immigration is a red herring. Fact is that we need immigrants or our standard of living will suffer - and we'll still have a housing shortage. Actually it will probably be worse because of the number of immigrants working in construction... The issue is a lack of housing supply, simple as. We need t...
