2. it zoomed off after swooping by the sun, the object sped up faster than could be explained by our star’s waning gravitational grip alone (this was confirmed by NASA). Comets appear to do this also, due to loss of matter caused by outgassing (evaporation of material that was previously frozen but...

So I don't see how ʻOumuamua can be taken as evidence of much of anything at all, much less evidence of extraterrestrial technology. According to the rules of the scientific method, if known paradigms do not satisfactorily explain a phenomena, you can draw on other explanations and seek evidence to...

His interest in evidence for extra-terrestrial life began with Oumuamua https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%CA%BBOumuamua Looked at this just now. Looks like ʻOumuamua was too small to have been seen well enough, by the telescopes that looked at it, for anyone to draw any definitive conclusions about it...

I see the biggest dangers coming from the potential military uses of AI. Unfortunately there's probably no good way to regulate that, because its manifestations won't be nearly as obvious as, say, a nuclear explosion, so there would be no good way to monitor compliance with any treaties intended to ...

Hi I'm new here. I have been told by some MH support workers that I should go to lots of autism support groups to make new friends who have something in common with me.I mean I would say I'm definitely anxious about attending one of these but I am still prepared to go. Has anyone else been to any? ...

Professionally I'm a developer, so I do a different kind of proofreading than emails or text, and I've screwed up fantastically a couple of times by failing to proofread my code before implementing it. I'm a developer too. Alas, bugs are a fact of life. There's no foolproof way to prevent all bugs....

No matter how hard I tried in high school, I was always excluded, ignored and made fun of. A very common problem among us. I didn't have any friends at all in gradeschool. I too was always excluded and made fun of. Luckily, by the time I got to high school, I had figured out that the only way I was...

Freedom OF religion does not imply freedom FROM religion. Depends on what you mean by "freedom FROM religion." If "freedom FROM religion" means "freedom to never ever encounter a religious proselytizer," then I agree. Such "freedom" would deny the proselytize...

My issue with the term "profound autism" is that it essentially means "autism plus intellectual disability and/or verbal disability." In other words, it is not necessarily the autism per se that is "profound," but rather the conjunction of autism plus other developmenta...

I've been "darkly inclined" off-and-on at various points in my life. In my teens and early twenties I was very much into vampires -- not just fiction and movies, but also folklore and the history of vampire hunts.

The only issues that really matter right now are campaign finance and SCOTUS. Without those being addressed nothing else is likely to be possible. And I don't see either major party candidate fighting in the right side of those issues. Only a Democrat can nominate decent people for SCOTUS. A modera...

I don't know why but it doesn't really interest me that there are meet up groups for people of different age groups like over 30s groups but they don't spark my interest because I personally prefer to meet people a bit younger than me not just in my own age group. It makes it come across as though ...

Of course the FBI should make sure they know exactly what happened before they make a statement about the specific details of what happened. I don't understand why anyone else would make a big deal about the FBI's hesitation to make a definitive pronouncement on whether Trump's ear was hit by the b...
